From last year Stanley Cup and from NHL.number the cap hit for the entire team is only 61.772 millions, they have 8.428 millions cap space. Quick is only 1.7millions cap hit, next year will be 6 millions, but they sill have a 4 millions to spend.
So I think they are going to be contender for year to come...

This is the same Kings squad that eeked into the 8th seed.
They were "hungry" in the playoffs.
Guys like Carter & Mike Richards were out to prove that they could get it done.
They are going to have a cup hangover.
Teams will be gunning for them.
This year, they are in good cap space.
But the following season...
In 13'-14', they'll have $50m committed to 13 players.
That leaves $20m for 10 players... and $2m/player doesn't buy much these days.
Carter and Richards are probably out there partying it up right now instead of training.
Seriously though, I think they make the playoffs but I doubt they win the cup again.
Most of their forwards arent exactly lighting up the scoring charts.
The Kings will be looking good until Quick refuses to visit the White House with the team due to a conflict with his beliefs (specifically his belief that there should be an open bar). They then seem to falter down the stretch and eventually they lose to the San Jose Sharks in the first round.
