I have him peg as undersized, a scorer who needs some grit for the NHL...but I also marked him as a maybe as he continues to improve and surprise.
This Kid looks like a cinderella story? Thoughts?

Leads team to cCalder Cup rookie season: Tyler Johnson scored twice and added a couple of assists to lead Norfolk to a 6-1 win over the Toronto Marlies and claim the Calder Cup. The Admirals won the series in four straight games as they amazingly won 43 of their last 46 games, going back to the regular season.

Tyler Johnson is a great story. I just don't see a spot this year on Tampa. I think another year in the AHL with some cups of coffee in the NHL is most likely. Only negative I see, is this kid won't get the call up to be a low line guy. However, I do think this kid, like Cory Conacher has a lot of upside. They dominated what is likely the strongest division in the AHL. The Lightning have a ton of strong RFAs over the next two years.
There was a Johnson sighting in the ramblings this morning.

I own Conacher, but I'm tempted by both Johnson and JT Brown. Who knows which (if any) of them will pop in the NHL and when. Unfortunately our rules only allow a skeleton prospects crew so I can't justify picking up Johnson/Brown at the current time. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Bump. Johnson has overtaken Conacher for the team lead in points and sits 3rd in the entire AHL with 23 points (15 of them goals) in 20 games. Now I'm really thinking of picking him up (maybe time to cut bait on Tangradi or, gulp, Joe Colborne).

Tyler Johnson is a Lightning prospect I am rooting hard for. Hockey sense, skating/speed, two-way ability...add that in with a great work ethic and strong character..hes the kind of player you want playing in any part of your organization because he has a good head on his shoulders and leads by example.
Will his AHL success ultimately translate to NHL success? I think he'll play in the NHL one day, absolutely. I would temper my fantasy expectations though, as hes still yet to play a single NHL game. Hes also playing for one of the best teams in the AHL and coached by arguably the league's brightest mind in Jon Cooper(who will be an NHL coach someday).
Being an undrafted player who is regarded as "undersized" will plague him until he shows he can withstand the rigors of the big show.
