To me it's more of the same. Oates may let them attack more but his time in NJ probably influenced him defensively.

Not overly happy with this from a fantasy perspective either but kudos to Oates. Could be a big day for him if he gets the call to the Hall as well.

Yeah I'm happy for Oates too. Always liked him as a player and in those early 90s EA Sports NHL games he was killer. I just don't see it as a culture change of any kind. Ovy's problems are more within than they are about style of play.

hopefully he realizes he has some of the most gifted offensive players in the league and coaches to score.

Hopefully it makes up for the fact the HHOF voters will probably overlook him... again.
I don't know anything about Oates' coaching style though, TBH.

I don't know much about Oates as a coach either, but if I had one guess it would be running the power play. Since that was his best attribute as a player. Shot in the dark here.

    Puck Daddy Article:
    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...4717--nhl.html

New Jersey Devils assistant coach Adam Oates is both an offensive coach and someone that had the commitment of his players, helping the team go from 30th in the NHL in offense in 2010-11 to middle of the pack (2.59 GFA).
If it's up-tempo McPhee wants, it's up-tempo Oates will deliver. The idea of Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Ribeiro working with one of the best centers in NHL history — sixth all-time in assists — is tantalizing. The idea that Oates will take over the Capitals' power play — which ranked behind that of the Devils' last season — is encouraging.

    Stephen Whyno's story with reactions:
    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...tes-new-coach/

“Obviously he knows the game very well, he understands it very well. Honestly there’s no reason for me to think he’s not going to do well,” Devils forward Dainius Zubrus said. “All the stuff that he worked with the players here and the stuff he was trying to teach and the way he was approaching this, it was great.”

Zubrus agreed with the commonly held notion that Oates is a players’ coach, given the 39-year-old’s positive rapport in New Jersey, Tampa Bay and elsewhere from his playing days.
McPhee made the comment before the NHL draft that he wanted a more “up-tempo” style of hockey, and Oates should be able to bring that. He was credited with helping Ilya Kovalchuk improve in New Jersey and for a strong power play.

But don’t think he’ll forget about the defensive end, either.

“Everybody think Adam will be offensive coach. He’s detail guy,” Bondra said. “I think he’ll work really hard to get everyone on the same page on the team and continue what Dale Hunter and Bruce Boudreau did the last couple years.”

While the jury may be out on Oates here, I'm of the opinion that Hunter [despite his playoff success] was pretty much the worst possible option [from a fantasy hockey perspective of course].

    It can't be worse...can it?

But why go with an external option when we can just rotate in one of our existing amazing staff in Krueger?

Acquiring Adam Oates was arguably the best trade the Bruins ever made..

    >>Boston Bruins traded Craig Janney and Stephane Quintal to the St. Louis Blues for Adam Oates.. And this deal was done 1 year after Oates had an amazing 90 assists, the same year Brett Hull scored 86 goals.. Thankyou St.Louis!!

I wouldn't say Oates will hurt fantasy wise as much as Hunter did..

I'll take anything as a positive for Mike Green at this point.
