I don't know what the Rangers' offer was but I do know they would have had to offer more than Carolina did to get Jordan because they're a divisional rival.

Probably tried to offer Dubinsky as a part of the trade.

You'd think so, but apparently New York had a deal set and Shero told Carolina they needed to make their offer better than the Rangers' offer.

Well of course. If that's true, Rangers' deal probably was better until Carolina upped their offer to what we all saw as the final deal. Carolina's offer up until that point probably wasn't good enough (something without Sutter?). So Shero just played the hands he was dealt as good as he could and made those teams compete for Jordan Staal and Carolina's final offer was enough for him to pull the trigger.

I heard. Apparently price was too high and we didn't have anybody named Staal on our team.

Rutherford on the FAN590 in Toronto this afternoon....when telling the story about how the Staal deal came about he mentioned that Shero went down to the floor to meet with another GM after their initial meeting. The host of the show asked whether he knew if that other team was the New York Rangers and Rutherford responded by saying something to the effect of: "well I can't be sure but when I ran into Sather later on he jokingly said that they stepped out of the way so the Canes could get Staal."

    Just found that interesting.

Very interesting to see how the top 6 in Carolina turns out. Either way it can only get better when compared to last season.

That image does look pretty sweet. I wonder if the Rangers ended up landing Jordan instead of the Canes if that would've effected them getting things done with Nash. I assume it would've. Guess things worked out for the best for all parties involved.
