Sure Pitts would go with a D at #8, not surprised at all given how they did in the playoffs this year and the prospect of them now having cap space to possibly get Parise or what not

    Great trade for both teams.

Pens get a legit #3 centre in Sutter, a quality Dman prospect in Dumoulin and the 8th overall. Surprised they went for Pouliot at #8 but still a great trade for them just the same.

Carolina gets a true #2 centre (Sutter isnt a #2) and Staal will flourish in that role.

    Awesome!

I'm not so sure this trade even makes Carolina a playoff team for next year...still a lot of holes in that lineup...what do you guys think?

It certainly helps... Faulk will have a breakout year, Ward should play significantly better, and Skinner will have a full season. I don't see them anywhere near home ice, but they could snag 8th, maybe 7th seed.

Plus you have to think Dalpe and Bowman will make more of a push this year. And I still expect the Canes to make a move in free agency to add some more scoring. Southeast Division should be great to watch.

They were speculating E.Staal will be moved to RW and Jordan will center him.

I mean, Staal is great, but is he that much of a step up on Sutter that he's worth a great D prospect and a high first rounder?
IMO, he's on the verge of being that. I'm not saying he'll reach it, but Staal has 40G potential. I see him being a consistent 30G scorer in his prime years. Him being a 70-75pt player would not surprise me at all.

    J. Staal - E. Staal - Skinner would be lethal, but to be honest I can't see Jordan on the 1st line. He will be a great #2 center, but I think he is too big of a two-way player to be given the most important offensive role.

Purely selfish question.....does Eric Staal's production get a boost from this trade?

Apparently Staal was set to go to New York before Carolina upped their offer.

I wonder that too, but unless the penguins were getting Stepan/Del Zotto/Mcdonagh they probably preferred Sutter + high 1st rounder

Based off of what they got from Carolina? I'd say it was Stepan+28th overall.
