At 6'2 and 194 pounds Trouba has great size to compliment the Leafs backend. He was one of the few bright spots on the Americans World Junior team that otherwise was dissapointing after a lackluster performance. He prides himself in his two way game and is a very good skater for a man his size. He doesnt back away from the rough stuff either and likes to get his nose dirty. He is an underrated puck mover who possesses a heavy shot from the back end. There isnt much risk involved with this pick and the reward is great if he achieves his potential once he fills out his 6'2 frame he will be a force to be reckoned with. The blend of size, skill and hockey sense this kid has, should have many NHL teams upset that hes off the board this early. Burke although recognizing this is earlier then many expected him picked are happy they got a chance to select him and not another team. With the potential future defence of:
    Gardiner-Trouba
    Phaneuf-Schenn
    Percy-Blacker

Leafs fans should be very excited!
if galchenyuk is off the board i think the leafs will take reinhart.

First off I would like to start by thanking the entire Pittsburgh Penguins organization and their fans for their tremendous hospitality for hosting the 2012 NHL entry draft.. I would also like to congratulate the LA Kings for winning their first Stanley Cup and for their success at representing the NHL with dignity and class..

The Anaheim Ducks are proud to select from the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League, defenseman Griffin Reinhart..

    Players BIO:
    Griffin Reinhart # - Defense
    Age: 18
    DOB: January 24. 1994
    POB: North Vancouver, B.C., Canada
    Height: 6-4 Weight: 197lbs
    Shoots: L

Why the selection?? The Anaheim Ducks need that guy who can help Cam Fowler lead from the back-end. They need a d-man with size, a guy that can log a huge amount of ice-time, a guy that can shoot, pass, and ultimately defend.. The Ducks are quite strong upfront as far as their top three go.. Their goalie is world class.. So it’s a great opportunity to build from the crease out now.. I personally feel that Reinhart is ready to step onto a NHL ice surface as soon as next year.. At 6’4 and 200lbs, he is the type of defenseman that scouts drool over. Born in Vancouver, BC. Griffin is the son of former NHL’er Paul Reinhart who was a great defenseman for the Atlanta Flames, Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks.. The Ducks now have a guy they can build around and count on for many many years..

With the 7th pick in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the Minnesota Wild proudly select: Matthew Dumba.

With the cupboards full of front line offense, this GM looks to shore up the back end. Though the offensive prowess of Reilly and Ceci was tempting, the all-around game of Dumba made him an easy pick here, as mgmt expected his selection to occur earlier.

Jim Rutherford and Ron Francis race each other up to the podium needing only approximately 0.002 seconds to make this pick....

With the eighth pick of the 2012 NHL draft, the Carolina Hurricanes are proud to select Filip Forsberg

    ----

Pretty straightforwad pick. The Canes desperately need to replenish the offensive cupboard. If Yakupov, Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, and Forsberg are all gone by the time 8 comes tomorrow night, it would not surprise me at all if they trade the pick or reach for Radek Faksa.

The Winnipeg Jets are proud to select, from the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League, Morgan Rielly.

    Player Bio:
    Morgan Rielly - Defense
    Age: 18
    DOB: March 9, 1994
    POB: Vancouver, B.C., Canada
    Height: 6' Weight: 197lbs
    Shoots: L

The big question: Why Rielly over Teravainen? Frankly, Teravainen is small, European, shies from physical play, and is weak in his own end. None of these traits endear him to the Winnipeg Jets GM and scouting staff.

What do the Jets see in Rielly? Arguably the defenseman with the greatest high-end offensive potential in this year's draft, Rielly is also among the very best skaters in the draft. Blessed with blazing speed, strong 4-way mobility, and tremendous puck skills, Rielly has the ability to spark offense from anywhere on the ice. He also boasts the skills and hockey IQ to develop a strong defensive game, as well, as he already rarely looks pressured in his own zone.

The Jets will be pleased to have the talented Mr. Rielly on their blueline for years to come.
