    This.

    C: He's now untradable.
D: He's got one more year on his contract and he's 38. Tough out the last year of the contract and then go away, you're obviously almost done anyway.

And this is all besides the fact that the Bruins gave him a shot to be successful, to win a Stanely Cup, Vezina, Conn Smyth, etc.. after being passed over for years. I understand he deserves the credit for sticking it out and focing them to give him that opportunity, but this just seems like a giant, selfish, slap in the face to the Bruins organization. TT is really starting to sound like a giant cornhole.
    And this.

And several other reasons. Suck it up, you have a year left - he's basically screwing Boston out of the money they could use to sign a top end player or several depth players.

Man you don't often see one dude's rep take a beating like Thomas' has in the last 6 months. (not the rep we have here at Dobber, but almost as important).

Whatever, you'd figure someone on the conservative side of the spectrum would be big on the 'you signed a contract so you better honour it' school of thought. I know this all depends on the next CBA, but potentially screwing over guys you won a title with less than 2 yrs earlier is just icky.

Clever thinking doulos! That just might be how this plays out.

No doubt, but unless some news surfaces saying his wife was diagnosed with cancer or something like that, I stick by my view.

If there's a legitimate serious reason for him taking a year off, good for him for having his priorities straight.

On the other hand, if there's nothing eminent and he's taking a year off for the hell of it, and because he doesn't want to be a backup or to be traded, and can't tough it out for a year, then how can you not say he's a dick?

I am pretty sure he is just a dick...he has clearly let his success go to his head. Somehow, now that he has won everything, his personal values have become more important than everything else.

I am all for having personal beliefs, and standing up for them...but to selectively apply them is what bugs me. He only started acting on his beliefs once he felt it was more safe. Now, he seems to be taking it too far. Not to mention his attitudes seem pretty backwoods anyway. He seems like an ignorant prick.

    Pardon my opinions..or not.

I'm a little surprised at how things are spreading. I guess this off-season will be most eventful. :-)

Why not just retire. If in a year he wants to "un-retire" he can and try to come back. At least it would help the Bruins.

Can't believe at his age he would even consider taking a year off.

He signed at 35+ years old so he costs 5M to the Bruins on the cap no matter what, even if he retires.

Retiring would not help the Bruins. They would be in for the over 35 contract.

IMO listening to Peter Chiarelli's comments, it seems like there's more to the story then what they want to release.

I'm pretty sure the Bruins can find a nice South Boston lad who can 're-assign' Thomas to the LTIR if need be... hehe

Although they better be careful as Thomas is likely gonna be packin'...

I really can't blame those who are not giving Thomas the benefit of the doubt when you consider the whole of his actions since winning the Cup.

Exactly. To take a year off at his age and expect to be able to step right back into a goaltending job the following year with the goalie market already flooded is asinine.

If something in your life is happening serious enough to cause you to quit your job - when you're probably 2 yrs from retirement anyway, just bite the bullet and call it a career. Already won his cup and proved doubters wrong. Its all downhill from here anyway.
