    Default Poll: Mark Scheifele?

Who here believes that he is going to make the NHL full time next year?

If so, what is a reasonable point projection for him?

    I have a poll.

Any chance I could edit the poll?

I wanted this post to reflect Schef's value for the 2012-2013 season.

Upside is important for sure, but I wanted to something more realistic for the next year or two to give direction to poolies in deeper leagues.

You can. However, seven people already voted in terms of upside. You could create another thread specifically for the 2012-13 season.

I dropped the ball on upside vs. 2012-13, that is my bad.

That said, a safe pick for next season would be 30ish points, given a full season of course. Depending on situation, games played, injury, chance etc... it could go as high as 50 points, but I wouldn't count on it.

You don't think 50 is there?

He's the #4 keeper option in all of the league and should garner like 15 minutes of icetime right?

    I myself don't see 50 next season.

It's tough to evaluate in June, since there is still no confirmation as to him making the jump full time. If he does, and the Jets rely on him to log big minutes he could have every opportunity to excel. But I am hesitant on that.

Mind you, I am also a "win now" guy, which means that I generally approach prospects with conservative rankings. Especially rookies.

I don't think WPG really has anyone who can take over on that 2nd line fulltime, and I doubt they can acquire Parise or Nash.

I definitely agree with the conservative approach, but I think some chances need to be taken at times. With the Jets, they need him.

Dobber likes him, he is right...most of the time, especially recently. I see no reason he can't break 40+ if he gets fulltime.

I don't think Scheifele will make the team this year. If he does, I think they bring him along slowly. Whether there's a great need or not, the Jets won't rush anyone. Look at Burmistrov. Many fans, etc. were frustrated this year that Burmistrov wasn't seeing more minutes in an offensive roll, but the staff saw things that he needed to work on, so they gave him 3rd, sometimes 4th line minutes.

I think Scheifele will be a very good player. I believe his upside is high, but we won't see that for a good while, in my opinion. In his first full year I expect somewhere between 30-40 points, likely skewing a bit closer to 30 than 40.

The tools are there. He's got excellent skills and vision, but if you watch him play it looks like he still needs to grow into his body, get stronger, and adjust to playing with men. That doesn't happen in one off-season of hitting the gym hard. He'll get there, but it won't happen right away.

First of all, it's probably inaccurate saying Dobber is right most the time. I think it's actually about 57% of the time

Secondly, I don't think he's even with the team full time. He'll see some sips of coffee but don't think WPG wants to rush their first ever draft pick. Plus 63 points in 47 games is hardly mind blowing.

I definitely wouldn't call him the number 4 prospect in the league though...I wouldn't judge somebody by their robber prospect ranking

Hope you're right, Ev. I have my doubts, but it would make for a fun, exciting season as a Jets fan!

Haha considering I just traded him to you I hope you are not right Ev!!

I do think he will play most of the year in the NHL but im thinking 25ish points and 3rd line duties with some PP and then around 40 the year after.

Yeah that might be right. I'm certainly not counting on him for next year - got some other prospects for that.

Anyways, I saw him first-hand in the OHL playoffs, and he played almost every other shift and pretty much carried his team most nights. Almost single-handedly got Barrie past Ottawa

Jets have no need to rush him up. The time isn't now. He may make the team solo based on the Jets not being active in free agency... assuming they aren't which I believe will be the case. He will most likely spend time with St. Johns. I also peg Ivan the Great to spend time with St. Johns this season.
