Since Columbus says two weeks before the deadline that they won't sign Straka, to me, is a strong implication it's a team decision not to sign him. Otherwise they'd be quiet and working the phones to get his rights traded if they see him worthy of a contract and therefore having value.
I agree completely. At least there would be some other kind of posturing going on rather than this definitive "we're cutting ties" message.

Hey, they could always just draft him again.

    Default CBJ message

The message I get from CBJ not signing him is two fold...either he said I don't want to play there or they said his development does not meet our future requirements. It either case both get hurt.

And nobody wanted Straka. Looks like Columbus did something right (not getting a draft pick for him when they chose not to sign him themselves; there was just no interest for this guy from other teams).

Tons of seemingly sure picks were not drafted. Definitely a weird year.

He had a GREAT rookie year for the Rimouski Oceanic and just hasnt progressed at all since then, the numbers didnt justify getting picked or signed but he has another year in the Q to prove his worth and hopefully do something.
