    Default Bärtschi or Etem

Points-only, who would you rather own and why?

I can afford to wait a couple of years, so upside and likelihood of reaching it are my main concerns here.

Bartschi easily for me. I know Etem scored 60 or whatever But this is his 3rd year in the WHL whereas it's only Bartschi's second and what he's done is unreal. Plus he's got incredible work ethic, huge opportunity, and has already shown he can play at the highest level.

I'm with Dyz. Bartschi will have a better shot in Calgary and appears to be more proven/polished as well.

Bartschi by a good margin. He's a much much safer pick as I'm just not sure how well Etem's game will translate to the bigs. He should be a solid player but Bartschi is a potential star.

I'm not exactly sure what gagoo is entirely saying but I'm pretty sure he is picking Bartschi. I like Etem and think he has the potential to be really great with the Ducks, but I will take Bartschi. More opportunity to be a main guy on the Flames..

A year ago, I would've said Etem. My opinion has changed and Baertschi is ahead of him now in my rankings. You have to remember that Etem gets the pleasure of playing with Hunter Shinkaruk, an absolute stud that inflates his numbers. Baertschi has already made an impact at the NHL level and he should continue to do so next year with Calgary.

Not disagreeing with Bartschi over Etem, but doesn't Bartschi have far stronger supporting cast than Etem had? Rattie, Ross, Morrow etc. So if Shinkaruk inflates Etem's numbers, can't the same be said about Bartschi's numbers when he's playing with a stud like Rattie for example?

You have a point, but its quality over quantity IMO.

So you're saying Shinkaruk > Rattie? Even considering where they are right now at their development curves (Rattie being over a year older) and not looking at their long-term potentials?

Not necessarily, what I'm trying to say is Etem gets a lot out of a sniper/playmaker like Shinkaruk and they're a very lethal duo because of the way they play. No doubt Baertschi and Rattie are an awesome duo as well, but I've seen both teams play and I think Etem and Shinkaruk play better together than Baertschi and Rattie.

We went from discussing Baertschi and Etem to Shinkaruk and Rattie, haha nice.

I think you will find that there are some that would say that this is the other way around. A lot of Ratties goals have come from a pass by Sven that have left Rattie with nothing more than an open net to shoot at.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying Rattie isn't a good player but I wouldn't say that he has been inflating Sven's numbers.

I think the linemate argument is kind of pointless. Both have pretty good linemates though I do personally think Etem benefits more as he's a goal scorer, not a playmaker.

But all I have to look at is that what Barstchi is doing is at least equally as impressive as what Etem is doing except he's doing it younger.

Etem is in his 3rd year in the WHL, I'd expect him to tear it up. Meanwhile Bartschi is making a joke of the WHL in only his second year.

Plus, Etem relies a lot on his speed for his goals from what I've seen. Whether that will work at the NHL level is debateable. I think Bartschi's game is more translateable (if that's a word).

I definitely agree with that, and yes "translatable" is a word.

Sven has been carrying the Winterhawks in this series against the Oil Kings, he's gone to another level.
