Convince me that McLouth is a better option as a keeper than Beltran.

    Nate McLouth
    (Pit - OF)
R HR RBI SB K AVG OPS
    87 22 75 14 71 .277 .863

McLouth b. 1981 and never put up these numbers before.

    Carlos Beltrán
    (NYM - OF)
R HR RBI SB K AVG OPS
    85 17 82 17 74 .272 .83

Beltran b. 1977 and put up these numbers or better for sevearl years.

Four years younger... putting up better numbers on a much worse team. You can look at that as a positive or negative but Nate would be even better if he was on NY.

I just like the upside of Nate. Carlos is frustrating for me because he seems to be underachieving the last few years.

In a keeper, it is really the age that makes the difference. McLouth is at the start of his prime and Carlos is at the end. A hitters prime starts around 28 usually.

Does the lack of production since the Pirates made deals, trading away Nady etc. concern you at all?

Where do you see him in the Pirates batting lineup next season (this year he\'s been bouncingn around from first to third for most of the season).

The Pirates lineup affecting him does concern me but I try to steer away from putting too much emphasis on that aspect when evaluating keepers. Stars will shine on any team. I would say he is a third on that team and a good #2 on a lot of teams. His pop and speed combo works well there.

I would go with Nate, took him as asleeper and have been rewarded although he is slumping a bit right now, Beltran has always been overated and although has been quite valualbe he has been slipping, go with Nate, but he is not as sure a thing to repeat as Beltran but has higher upside at this point too
