In a pure, points-only, gotta go with the guy averaging nearly 1.25 per game over his short career. Stamkos' goals are nice, but his 1 PtPG doesn't win this battle.

    GENO.

Take out that nasty knee issue and this would be a no-contest.

If you are looking at a one year league...then maybe this is close if you think you have a chance to win it...since Stamkos appears less injury prone. Outside of that...seeing this is a keeper poll. Malkin wins this one easily. Out of every year that they both play over 70 games...Malkin wins this 8/10 times easily. The only factor is health...but Malkin even this year when he misses games, still finishes ahead of Stamkos. I know some will prefer Stammer...but for me, this is a real no-brainer.

St. Louis and Lecavalier won't be around for the next 10 years and then teams will be able to focus on him much closer. Malkin also has a much better situation where his teammates will be much more talented for some time. Crosby, Staal, Letang, Neal, etc....much more high end talent, therefore the top defensive players will not always be focussed just on Malkin. These reasons simply seal the deal for me.

I am interested to see the final outcomes

    Malkin: 1.43 PPG
    Stamkos: 1.18 PPG

Malkin easily... I really hope he does a Pat Kane and goes with the a true 90's mullet in the playoffs.

Come on Dobber, there's a lot of love in a face like this

In all seriousness though, points only definitely Malkin. I still would have taken Malkin before Stamkos early this season when there were all the doubts about Malkin's durability...and what he's done this season has only reinforced just how good the guy is.

Soooo I usually reserve comments like the one I am about to type for between just my good friends and myself because they know me really well and that I have nothing against any group of people, and I have made this comment before too to them .. but shouldn't Malkin be the one with the last name Downie?

Are you kidding me?!?! Who wouldn't kill for those voluminous golden locks...

If he wanted to, Stamkos could be making more money doing shampoo commercials than as a hockey player.

It's no coincidence that Stamkos rhymes with Stamos (ie: John Stamos from Full House)

I think it depends on preference and GM style. I know this year I'm hanging on by a hair for the top spot in my main keeper league. In a situation like that I'd rather have the player with higher upside because sometimes it's just those inches that pull out championships.

    Malkin for me.

Also, he's definitely the ugliest. He looks like the missing link. Most russians are pretty ugly (OV, Rads, Markov, etc.) though. If Hall takes a few more skates to the face, he might have a shot.

Honestly what was the point of this tournament int he first place? You knew who the winner was going to be. It;'s whoever is currently leading the NHL in points. You do this last year and it wouldn't be Malkin.

Entertainment value would be first. DobberHockey is a great medium for people to interact and express views this tournament took it to the next level.

I think that the fact Crosby went as far as he did and made things as interesting with Malkin indicates some degree of outside the box thinking on the part of voters. Last year Daniel Sedin led the league in scoring. Certainly he made it to the Final Four so we know there is value there but I still question if after leading the league in scoring he would have won this tournament so I think that criticism falls a little flat. The fact is, we all kind of knew it was coming down to Malkin and Stamkos in the end, but the process more than anything else is what mattered.

Getting to see all the different matchups along the way was thoroughly intriguing. For instance the Benn vs. Kopitar matchup where Benn pulled off the upset, or Toews besting Eberle. Both of those yielded results I was not expecting. So there really is some insight that can be gained from the thing as a whole. If all you can see from this tournament is the end result then you are definitely missing the point.
