I just don't think Howard will be gone that long so for that reason I would definitely to take a chance on Ward. Canes have been playing pretty decent lately.
Ward vs Joey Mac
Just registered today, been lurking for a while but need help before H2H playoffs (Mar 12 - Apr 1).
I picked up Joey Mac when Howard was injured, but Ward is available right now. Should I pick up Ward for the rest of the year? The only reason I'd keep Joey Mac is I'm banking on Detroit being extra careful with Howard before playoffs.
League: Yahoo 1-year H2H

I'm with Smack here - I would grab Ward over MacDonald for the playoffs.
Make it the trifecta for Ward.
Ward is better, complimented with Howard's injury makes it a pretty solid bet.

I was a bit concerned with Ward still struggling from recent injury and with the number of shots he faces every game, it might wear on him.
Hoping to ride the upcoming Joey Mac streak on the road, it seem like Detroit is very cautious and won't rush Howard back.
