Kiprusoff may have had terrible numbers but he was the only reason it was only 5-1 Oilers after 2 periods. Any other goalie and it would have been about 8-1 by then.
A total of 11 games tonight, so tons of content to cover. I did my best to include the stand-outs at both extremes. If I missed someone, please think of a cheesy title and add to the existing article!
STUDS
Carter bites the Sharks
The disappointing Jeff Carter had a night to remember as he potted three goals in a 6-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Carter has six points in the last five games as his totals slowly approach normal levels. He's not there yet, but three goals (2 PPG) and six shots is a much-needed boost for his patient owners.
Kari-ing the team with a Fleury of saves
We had two shutouts which are always important in head-to-head formats. Kari Lehtonen stopped 31 shots in a 3-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens while Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves in a 2-0 win over the East-leading New York Rangers.
Three-pointers
Several players aside from Carter also had three-point nights. Here is a listing of them:
Steven Stamkos: two goals (42 total), one assist, five shots, 10/16 face-offs
Vinny Prospal: three assists
Teddy Purcell: goal, two assists
Mike Fisher: goal, two assists, plus-2, six shots, two blocks, 8/16 face-offs
Jordan Eberle: goal, two assists, plus-3, seven shots, two hits
Sam Gagner: goal, two assists, plus-3, six shots, 8/14 face-offs
Honourable mentions
Stud goalies deliver
Pekka Rinne 32/33 (.970)
Corey Crawford 31/32 (.969)
Ryan Miller 30/31 (.968)
Claude Giroux: goal, assist, 10 shots, 11/20 face-offs
DUDS
Antti-hero
Antti Niemi was not a hero for his fantasy owners. He only played 15 minutes and allowed three goals on 11 shots (.727). This is his third consecutive dud game as he has posted a save percentage below .900 each time. Fortunately for leagues that count goalie losses, that was passed on to Tomas Greiss who allowed the fourth goal which counted as the game-winner.
Fire extinguisher
The Calgary Flames were blown out 6-1 versus the lowly Edmonton Oilers. Among the fantasy duds were three players who were kept off the score sheet while finishing minus-3. Those players are Jay Bouwmeester, Jarome Iginla and Olli Jokinen.
Jonas Hiller
Hiller only posted 16 saves, allowed three goals (.812 save percentage) and lost 3-2 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. This is a game the Ducks have to win as they try to climb into a playoff position and Hiller contributed no peripherals while taking the loss.
Dis-honourable mentions
Sedin sisters
This is a term used mostly by people who don't have a clue but when both finish minus-2 while being kept off the score sheet, their fantasy owners may be calling them sisters out of pure frustration.
Miikka Kiprusoff
He allowed five goals on 34 shots before getting the hook.

KING FULL OF RICHES
Richards FINALLY has a multi-point night, with a few hits to boot.

JOY TO ROY
Derek Roy had two helpers last night in the Sabres 2-1 win over the New York Islanders. This marked Roy's sixth and seventh point in his last 4 GP. Rejoice all patient owners!

I assume Gustavsson wasn't a dud because it woulda been an insult to the other duds to be associated with such a dud, right?
