Duchene for 1st rounder

League in sig. Im not in contention this year, but may have a shot at number 1 pick.

Should i do it?

I wouldn't - Duchene has an awesome upside.

Nope, even if that pick does end up being a 1st, it's risky because you know that Duchene can produce at the NHL level (and produce at a ppg if he has a good line-mate like Mueller/Fleischmann). The 1st overall pick could easily end up being a better player but why take the risk when you know Duchene is already good and further along in development anyways.

At first glace, I'd prefer Duchene.

But it depends on who's going back into the draft for next season. Right now, in my league (60 keepers) Tavares is going back into the draft (if no move is made) because one guy has too many center keepers.

Basically boils down to, will you get a better player than Duchene with that #1 pick? If not, pull the trigger now!

I don't know if your team in sig is up to date (propably not as the likes of Karlsson and Carlson are listed as rookies), but you also have to consider who you'd have to unprotect to keep Duchene.

Basically it's

Whoever's available with that #1 + the player you'd unprotect

vs

Duchene.

Typically those deals are almost never worth it in a keep 8 format unless you're getting a bonafide superstar, which Duchene isn't quite yet.

is the 1st pick overall just for those in the freshest draft class (Yakupov, etc) or all non-keepers as well?

While Duchene looks to be an upgrade on your keepers, I wouldn't take Duchene over your last keeper + 1st overall.
