Emery going tonight. Crawford likely tomorrow unless they plan on working Emery to death.

Edit: Khiyasu beat me to it.

Thanks. The insurance was worth it. Also, our league is goal heavy, so assist machines like Stas are slightly less valuable.

I was being killed by Varlamov and now finally feel really good about my tending situation.

Still, it will sting a little if I could have just snatched Chicago's starter off the wire for nothing.

I think that Chicago is actually throwing Crawford a bone here. If the coach wanted to really screw Crawford's psyche, he could have easily started him tonight after such a long layoff against such a potentially potent offense. He's getting the easier matchup, imo.

Crawford is their #1 goalie. They will give him time and chances to win back his spot. Just running with the hot hand right now. Eg. Luongo. Played awful and Schneider played like a #1 goalie. But once Luongo snapped out of his funk, he was back between the creases as Vancouvers #1. Crawford will get his chances too. Just be patient. The time will come.

Good point. About as good as a situation as Craw can hope for.

Their hands were pretty tied - it's not like they could stop rolling with Emery, and it happens to be the toughest matchup. If it was Mtl/Pit, it would still be Emery/Craw.

Lucky break for Crawfish - if they win tonight, he can slide on in and hopefully ride the wave. If they lose tonight, they will likely crush Mtl and the door opens for him to start the next game.

    Gonna be very interesting

hmmmmmmm....I thought for sure it would be Crawford tonight vs Pens and Emery tomorrow vs Montreal.

not sure if this is the right coaching decision by Quennville.

as I said before Emery was torched by the Pens in a pre season game.

    Crawford plays well vs Pittsburgh.

Emery has been playing well,if he gets shelled could ruin his confidence and the streak he is on.

    if Crawford loses,no big deal.

Emery goes vs the weaker Habs teamm tomorrow.

if it was me id start Crawford tonight.

I can see that, but I really think that they have to go with Sugar Ray. If they didn't they would:

    - send a message that they believe Emery NOT the guy they signed long term is the #1.
    - knowing this, Crawford comes in cold against a juggernaut Pittsburgh team and likely gets killed. I think it is a "big deal" if a zero confidence guy who was supposed to be the starter for years comes in and gets shelled.
    - it also fires up Mtl, who have had it thrown in their face that they are the easier competition who deserves the back up tender. Teams feast on that shit.

The only thing to do is ride the wave, and if Emery loses (even gets shelled), he's earned a mulligan, and it allows Crawford to come in against a weaker foe, hopefully giving him a little confidence.

I don't think that the team who gave him a 2 or 3 yr. contract sees it that way. I would think that they are seeing him as the future between the pipes, but the veteran happens to be playing better (i.e. Varly/Jiggy in Colorado - I doubt Colorado is ok with Varly sucking). Chicago desperately want to have some hope for the future , and it all starts with a good start from Craw tomorrow.

is the Emey ride coming to an end already? damn. of course the team taking 29 minutes in penalties in front of him is not helping. but that won't matter in the eyes of Coach Q. Emery owners can only hope Montreal shells Crawford tomorrow. It could happen after sitting for so long.

Regardless, the goalie situation in Chicago is very volatile. Going forward, its anyone's guess as to who will start. Looks like they could swap starts for the rest of the season.

Thanks for the replies...I gave out rep. I only caught the last period, but what an exciting game. As a Emery owner it looks like I'm cheering for the habs tomorrow.

This start wasn't bad enough to end my fears of a complete Emery takeover. Crawford needs a 1 goal against or a shutout tonight (yeah, right) in order to see consistent work going forward.
