I believe the Penguins second buyout window is this weekend, so dont be surprised if there's action this weekend on this deal. The new GM may be looking to make a splash his first week in the chair.

Guentzel had ankle surgery this week and will be reevaluated in 12 weeks. Is that Valterri Puustinen's walk up music I hear playing? Chances of him getting a shot in the top 6 just went up again!

I feel like he's still behind Rust, Rakell, Smith, Nylander, Johnsson, and Hinostroza, right?

It's happening today and the Habs are somehow involved..

Apparently the Canadiens are sending forwards Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Jeff Petry, goaltender Casey DeSmith, forward Nathan Legare, and a second-round pick in 2025. The Penguins will also retain 25 per cent of Petry's salary.

Yeah great trade! We get rid of Hoffman and get a 2nd rounder. But Petry back to Mtl who couldn’t wait to get out? Maybe another trade?

Not sure why DeSmith going to Montreal makes any sense either.

Totally agree. One of the three should be dealt as well.

Is this enough to get the Penguins back into the Playoffs?
I'm not sure at the moment that it is.

They do get a much needed draft pick, where first 3 rounds is pretty barren for them.

I think it's enough to get into the playoffs, just not sure about a deep run. Not sure if their primary need was another puck moving right handed d-man. They already had one in Letang.

I think having two is pretty big for a teams success.
Letang misses time every year too.

As a Pens fan, I have not supported the continued rebuild at the expense of the future. However, I do think the biggest barrier to postseason success has been an abysmal bottom 6 and poor or injured goaltending.

So in addition to Karlsson, Dubas improved the bottom six with Acciari, Eller, Nieto, etc. so I wouldn't be surprised if the Pens do some damage for another year or two.

The odds are against them at their ages but they have 3 first ballot and 1 close HOFer on their roster now with some gas in the tank.
