Big ups to the Storage Wars drop!
Hey guys, I'm taking over the Studs and Duds for Tuesdays moving forward. Let's get right to it.
STUDS
Blue Jackets notch first win
I know it's very pathetic that we're commenting about this at the end of October. But they're finally on the board! They did so against a strong Red Wings team and won 4-1. A few players stood out during the victory. Steve Mason has had a rough start but was outstanding tonight. He made 30 saves on 31 shots. James Wisniewski made his season debut tonight which further muddies the water when it comes to their puck moving defencemen situation, but tonight Grant Clitsome was able to step up and get three assists. Finally, RJ Umberger had a strong roto game with a goal, an assist, plus-2, five shots, two blocked shots and two hits.
Fleury blanks Islanders
If you own Fleury tonight, you're a happy camper. He recorded a shutout on 33 saves to further extend his hot start to the season. Even more impressive is his start to the season despite a lineup that has been shorthanded to one extent or another all year. This is going to be a dangerous team once Crosby returns.
Pavelski delivers in the clutch
Shortly after the Predators tied the game 1-1 in the third, Joe Pavelski went to work. He scored 57 seconds later to give the Sharks the lead and then added an empty-netter to clinch victory. Both goals were assisted by Thornton and Marleau. Pavelski's heroics proved to be too much for a Predators' club that isn't very gifted offensively and only generated 20 shots tonight.
Honorable mention
As I'm writing this I'm watching Storage Wars. Brandi looks good in a tank top. That is all.
DUDS
Louuuuuuuuu
Look at my sig and ask me how I feel about him blowing another game. He was solid in the first with 11 saves but allowed three goals on four shots in the second before getting yanked. Maybe he should get on a treadmill or something because he seems to be moving slower every time I see him
Dead Wings
Not only did the Wings give Columbus their first victory of the season, but several of their key players produced true dud performances. Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg were among players who were erased from the score sheet while being minus-2 this evening.
Ville Leino
I am going to single him out because his stat line is just terrible this evening. I use Yahoo to check scores and when looking at Leino I see zeros across the board along with an ugly minus-2. But Ville will probably read this while sitting on his pile of money and laugh at me.
Honorable mention
My dog Rocky. He is biting my feet as I'm typing trying to get my attention to play. So off I go.
