GM Ray Shero was just on NHL Live doing an interview. He said right now with the Pens' strenuous schedule it's been difficult to get in quality practices which are how they judging Crosby's recovery and whether or not to ramp him up to contact practices. He went on to say that as soon as the doctors say that it is ok for Crosby to take part in contact practices it will be Sid who decides when he is ready to jump abck into action for the regular season. He didn't set a specific date though. Just thought I'd fill you guys in as there hasn't been any Crosby talk in a while and thought you'd appreciate the update.

Sidney Crosby not seeing doctor today. "This week," he said. Still no contact for now. #Penguins
via twitter from Bob Mackenzie sounds encouraging .....

Ace reporter @MolinariPG -- he paid me to say that -- just observed Crosby and Dustin Jeffrey having a "pretty vigorous battle drill."

Those who watch Crosby practice, outside of being smashed into boards/clocked in open ice, he's been engaged in fair bit of physical play.

He technically isn't "cleared for contact" in practice but those who watch him every day say the phrase is a bit of a misnomer.
Crosby wearing a black helmet at practice. EVERYONE ELSE IS WEARING A BLACK HELMET. Success!
yep confirmed via twitter,

So, yes, Crosby has been cleared for contact in practice. Much to J.R.'s chagrin, that will only fuel speculation on when he may play a game

Good news anyways. Doesn't necessarily mean anything as he's been pretty much playing contact but any step is a good step.
Well, it means he has official medical clearance for contact now, which is a vote of confidence on the organization and doctor's parts. Which is more than he had at other practices, which Bob McKenzie noted, while physical, were nowhere near normal levels of contact.
Setting up the play.
Doesn't mean anything??? Are you nuts? bumping is not equal to body checking.
Does anyone know if he now needs medicial clearance to play a game, or is it whenever he feels he's ready to go?
Well, that's just semantics.
It's one of the larger (and more final) milestones in the comeback. Of course a setback could happen any time, that's no different from when he was limited to stationary bike.
It's good news. He still has a way to come, but its a big one. Let's see how he does after his first big hit in practice.
Setting up the play.
I'd say hes out for 3 more weeks before they will consider getting him into a game and then if there on a streak they wont mess with that so 3 weeks and then the 1st game they lose?

I'm thinking about 2 weeks.
Lombardi took about 12 days. But then again they had no games in between so maybe even he was ready sooner
