    Default Get younger on D?

For the team in my signature, I've been offered J Merrill + 2nd round pick (16 team league, no snake) for A Markov

I've been shopping Markov around and haven't really received many offers. This one is tempting - Merrill has the upside, and a 2nd round pick next year should get me a quality player with the depth of the draft. I think this is a decent return for an oft-injured, older dman.

Downside? Boyle is the only player I can count on to produce. Probably Shattenkirk as well...but after that, it's hit or miss. Does Markov help me this year or do I look to the future? Merrill is years away, but has some top-pairing upside.

Despite the injury risk, I would take Markov 100% of the time over Merrill and a 2nd rd pick. Most people will only hope that in 5 yrs that Merrill can do half of what Markov can do in the present. If that 2nd rd draft pick is for 2012 entry only, then it has marginal value. Granted that Markov is damaged good, he can still miss 20 games this year and still be your highest scoring defenseman. I know it's hard but I think you need to tough it out or hold on to Markov for someone better.

    Bringing this back to life...

Greening + Merrill + 2nd round pick for Markov. Is this worth it? Getting something for what could be nothing if Markov can never regain his form?

Can you elaborate on the value of the 2nd round pick? I'd lean towards holding Markov, unless that pick is a good player.

Sure thing. We typically draft that year's draftees in our draft...plus any non-held players (16 teams, each keeping 23 players). Last year, the draft was players like: Puempel, Beaulieu, Seimens, J Gibson, Jurco, Jagr, Dekanich....

Thanks, Markov all the way for me. His potential is worth keeping over that return.

Another vote for the Markov side. You need more in return for him.
