Keeping:
Krejci $1.50
Carter $4.50 (for two more years)
Backes $5.00 (for two more years)
Kessel $4.75
Tavares $2.75
Giroux $0.75
J Neal $0.75
Downie $2.50
Byfuglien $ 2.00
J Quick $1.50
(that’s $29.00 out of $55.00 I have available to spend)
I CAN keep two more players.
Among those I’m tossing back, but considering:
Eberle 3.00
Karlsson 1.75
Carkner 0.75
Subban 3.25
Halak 2.50
Lots of top talent available at this draft: Crosby, Ovechkin, DSedin, Parise, Thorton, Spezza, Kovalchuk, E Staal, J Staal, Stasny – but lots of teams going in with lots of money too.
Three questions, if anyone has any advice:
1. Do I keep any of the players I’m throwing back, or switch Quick for Halak?
2. Anyone have any ideas on what to project how much to pay for any particular player? I’d probably just be using the projections from Dobber’s Guide (which, if you’re on the fence, you should get – it’s miles ahead of the news rack guides).
3. At the end of the 2nd year, a decision must be made as to how long you want to keep a player:
Eligible players this year are (the price doesn’t change this year)
Kessel: 4.75 this coming year, 6.00 for one year, 7.25 for two years, 8.50 for three years.
Tavares: 2.75, 4.00, 5.25, 6.50
Giroux/Neal: 0.75, 2.00, 3.25, 4.50
Downie/Halak: 2.50, 3.75, 5.00, 6.50
Just a note: The price doesn’t increase every year – if you sign a player for three years, you pay the three-year salary every year you own him – If I sign Kessel for three years, I pay 4.75, 8.50, 8.50, 8.50.
Thanks in advance…
