Ok, I'm gonna go in a different route, but I'm saying
    EJ
    Carlson
    Piet
    Shatty

I honestly think this is EJ's breakout year. Carlson is a stud and won't be a sophomore slump type. Green will get injured and he'll get plenty of good ice time then. Piet and Shatty stand the chance of losing ice time to each other. I don't think they'll be on the same line.

Dobber's "Defense Will Rise" peice has them in this order for thier 3YP
    Carlson
    Shatty
    Pietrangelo
    Johnson.

If mike green doesn't return to the mike green of old Carlson could see more playing time and benefit tremendously from the forward power of washington. Pietr and Shatty could also be passnig to some elite talent in 2-3 years. (Tarasenko, Stewart, Berglund, Oshie etc)

Personally, I like the dartboard method though.

To be honest i didnt think there was this much love for Erik Johnson anymore.

Maybe this is the time to go and acquire him. I know for a fact his cost isnt even as close to any of the 3 others.

    Shattenkirk
    Pietrangelo
    Carlson
    EJ

Thats my order for this year.

    3 years:

    Carlson

    Shattenkirk
    Pietrangelo
    EJ

The Caps have Green, Wideman and Alzner in the fold as well as a guy like Dmitri Orlov knocking on the door. That's a lot of offensive depth to go along beside Carlson. I stand by my previous statement of the other guys being more top dog type of options.

I believe Carlson and Pietrangelo will be studs for a long, long time!!

Exactly how I feel as well. I think they're all 40-50 point defensemen for the next three years with the chance to exceed that total up to about 55 I would say, but things would really have to work out for them.

IMO its too tough to rank them with any confidence. I think it just comes down to matter of preference honestly. My preference would be:

    Pietrangelo
    Johnson
    Shattenkirk
    Carlson
Goalies: If I'm pickin em you best be sittin em!

Pietrangelo: I think he's got the most offensive talent of the bunch.

    E. Johnson: Has all the makings of a stud D, but I don't know if has 60 pts in him

Shattenkirk: Will be No.2 to Pietrangelo

Carlson: Will be number two to Green, and they like using Ovy at the point on the PP.

    Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all of your responses. I was glad to see that the consensus felt that there's not much difference between them. I ended up with Carlson as EJ and Petrangelo were already taken.

Pietranglo vs Shatty is what I'm mostly concerned with. Dobbs has Shatts 3YP @ 70 while he has Piet @ 57. Why the love for Shats over Piet? I always viewed Piet and from what I've read is the better of the two. What's with the differing of opinion.

Most likely of the mindset that Pietrangelo will be a multipurpose beast and Shattenkirk will be a PP spe******t. I see it, but I disagree to an extent - Piet will put up a ton of points.

I don't think the gap is that big between the two. I think they will be very similar to each other in terms of upside and 3YP.

Im going with Dobber on this one. I think Shatty is more offence for sure, but i dont think his defensive side is weak enough that he'll loose even strength time. I know it's a small sample size, but i was more impressed with him offensively than Piets. I thought his timing and choices were prettt spot on in the offensive zone and he produced on two poopy treams.
That said, i would build an nhl team around piets. He's great all over the ice and to me seems more conscious of his overall play. I think a result of that will be more defensive zone time and coverage of top lines. Thats not to say he won't produce. Id love to have him on my squad(ive tired). I dont think the difference is huge but im thinking high end shatty 65 piets 60. Im just thinking how few dmen hit 60+ In a year so st louis in general would really have to light it up for them to both hit it.
