    Default 2011 Ivan Hlinka Tournament

The annual Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament is one of the first international tournaments that scouts use to gauge the upcoming draft prospects (i.e. 2012).

The Tournament is currently underway and I will do my best to keep things updated on some key contributors via articles as best I can.

I will do my best. Unfortunately the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament doesn't have a website for tracking and finding stats is extremely difficult.

Articles will be the main source of information here

Canada up 4-1 over Czech Republic after two periods. Reilly Morgan and Charles Hudon are playing well again from what I hear.

The International Scouting Service via The Hockey News wrote a good article yesterday on players to watch in this tournament.

    Check it out here

I agree 100%. I am baffled why TSN hasn't picked it up yet.

One of my favourites for the 2012 draft, Matt Dumba, has scored to make it 5-1 for Canada (also has an assist)

From what I have heard, Canada's Andreas Athanasiou (London Knights) had an extremely impressive game against the Czech's in their 6-1 win.

Moments after I commented on him via twitter, Kirk Luedeke added via twitter

Looks like Athanasiou is doing a Ryan Strome-like "watch me shoot up the draft boards" performance for Canada @ Ivan Hlinka
Athanasiou took a nasty hit to the head in the game against Sweden yesterday so it's good to see him bounce back.

Highlights from Canada's 6-1 Win over the Czech Republic yesterday
    http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/clip514125#clip514125

There are some nice goals in that highlight package.

Standouts include: Forwards J. Maidens, A. Athanasiou and defensemen Morgan Reilly and Koekkoek

I haven't heard much about Griffin Reinhart yet which I am surprised.

    Today's Update:

Canada currently leads 5-0 after two periods of play vs. Switzerland this morning.
Goals from Kerby Rychel (F, Windsor, OHL), Derrick Pouliot (D, Portland, WHL), Scott Laughton (F, Oshawa, OHL), Slater Koekkoek (D, Peterborough, OHL), and Hunter Shinkaruk (F, Medicine Hat, WHL) on a penalty shot.

EDIT: Athanasiou has scored his second goal of the game to make it 6-0

    Other games today:

Russia defeated Finland 3-1 earlier this morning.

Check out this nice goal from USA player Christoval Nieves vs Russia yesterday

    Final Score:
    Canada 6, Switzerland 0

Players of the Game - Thomas Wilson (CAN) and Zaccheo Dotti (SUI)

It looks like things got a little bit chippy near the end of the game as Thomas Wilson was given 2min + 10 for checking to the head.

Canada gets a berth to the Semi Finals on Friday with this win. Likely opponent is Russia.
