For the team in sig, my first pick in the prospect draft is 13th overall. I need some d depth at bench. What are peoples thoughts on Clitsome? Does Wiz help or hurt? I have Moore so if he pans out he can take over....

I think Wiz only helps Clitsome's development and overall production. It's been clear for a while that Columbus needed a top tier offensive defenseman immediately and now they have it. I think that Clitsome will be paired with Wiz as the Jackets aren't deep enough offensively to really throw anyone on the back end for the 1st P unit and still have fire power on the 2nd unit.

Personally, I love the kid. Just selected him in my prospect draft along with Orlov as my defensemen of the future. I think that he has good skill, good upside and now some decent players to play as a full unit with him. It won't just be the Rick Nash show anymore.

Clitsome should post somewhere in the range of 31-34 pts this season with an outside chance at 38.

I see Wis as helping him/complementing him as well. Clitsome isn't known for his shot (based on what I have seen) so I can see them on the top PP together with Clitsome as more of the playmaker.

I like TwoPuck's thoughts on the lack of offensive forward depth meaning they will likely have two d-men on the top PP unit.

First of all, I'm not sure that I would completely rule out Russell here, at least not yet.

Second, just a quick comment, the reason that Clitsome garnered so much PP time last season (as opposed to Russell) was his ability to get shots through from the point. The Jackets were having a god-awful time with point shots getting blocked and, for some reason, Clitsome just seemed to always be able to get his through. With Wiz as the prime shooter now, I wonder if they keep Clitsome there to have a second shot option from the point, or do they move the more dynamic passer in Russell.

As a Clitsome owner, I'll be watching their pre-season very carefully.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Selecting either Russell or Clitsome expecting production this year, with Wiz in the picture AND the possibility that they will go with 4 forwards on the PP, is very risky. In a keeper league, I think I'd easily take Russell over Clitsome. I was interested in Dobber's prediction for Clitsome in the guide, going out on a bit of a limb, but Clitsome does certainly have some skill.

I really don't know what to make of this guy. I'm holding onto him in my league and hoping for the best, but he just came from absolutely nowhere and I've seen plenty of players do that only to disappear again. His best season in college was 22 points as a senior, there really isn't much of a past history to go on.

If Clitty can keep his place on the 1st PP unit, having Wiz should only help.

He could be a good pickup for sure, but it's risky, as you say it often happens that these guys come out of nowhere and then settle in at a less-than-fantasy-valuable production rate.

When I read this, I couldn't help but think of Paul Mara. Around when he was entering his prime, the two years sandwiching the lockout, he had 42 and 47 points and it was looking like he would be a solid 40+ fantasy guy for years. Lots of guys drafted him, traded for him, expecting an eventual return to those levels, and it never happened.

Haha it's funny you mention Mara....I was one of those people. I thought he'd finally put it together and was destined for big things. Oh well.
