    Default Edlers worth

League rundown: 24 teams, actual salary, points league.

    my team:
    Butler - Kiovu - Bourque
    Bouchard - Malkin - Fisher
    N Palmieri - Stepan - Lombardi
    Hodgson - Backlund - Zuccarello

    Yandle - Edler
    Elliott - Toarmina
    Gustafsson - Kampfer

    Clemmenson

    Holtby, Dekanich, Sexton, xxx xxx

Noteable Prospects/Farm: Kreider, Kassian, Bjugstad, Radulov, Josi, Noreau, McKegg, Bachman, Brodin, Joe Morrow

So, Im not looking to compete this year (see goalie situation) or next either id think....

Im getting a lot of offers for Edler and would like to know what one would expect in return for the near elite dman?

one offer involves 2 highly touted forward prospects....

Edler's value is definitely high, but in your case especially. You are very weak at defense and losing Edler would hurt a lot. I would not deal him unless I got a dman and a goalie or forward in return. In fact, looking at your lack of goalies, you should definitely try to land one if you give up Edler.

all i need to say is you definitely need a goalie... unless they hold little value in your league. i assume its like 2 pts for a win and 3 pts for a shutout?

Of course i need a goalie but its not that important if I cant compete this year anyway.

would Lehner + Adam be adequate compensation be the likes of Edler?

Nope , Lehner is still yrs. away from seeing any real time in the NHL , especially with the aquisistion of Auld for back-up purposes.
Not familiar with Adam but , I'm confident this isn't even close for Edler.
I'd say something like Varlamov , maybe Neuvirth , would be the type of goalie you should be able to nab.Smith is now #1 in Dallas and may be worth a flier , Smith + for Edler should be easy to pull off , just some examples.

hold onto edler for another year. with erhoff gone, edler is the man. his points should go up this year and therefore his value will increase. you won't get maximum value if you sell him now. if you are not going for it, then is there really any hurry to sell him?

If you're not going to be competitive this year, why rush to move Edler?

He'll hit 50pts this season, will have a good +/-, and will rack up PP points - all stats in your league.

Why not wait a bit before moving him? Really get a good idea of what Edler can do and what he's worth...

He went to Phoenix, where he'll have a chance (again) to be the starter.

I have been a huuuuge proponant of Edler throughout his career. He was on pace to be better then Ehrhoff in everything except PPG and now that Ehrhoff is gone Edler is #1 on the power play and believe it or not still has room to grow.

He can be inconsistant but unlike someone like Kessel who's good is 40+ goal scorer and bad is 10 game droughts Edler when he is BAD is still a 35-40 point Dman and when he is good is a 60+ point 150 hit dman. Any Canucks fan has seen flashes of someone comparable to Lidstrom and Chara... Both of whom took a while to fully "arrive". Chara reached 40 points in his 7th year and 50 in his 10th. Despite being a generational talent and point machine didn't win his first Norris until his 10th year. Including his 22 game stint Edler has only been in the league for 5 seasons.

If you compare his career path to comparable greats (a bit bigger, can deliver crushing hits [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j19FwazP64U ], calm, good hockey sense, 100 mph slap shot and potential for significantly more then 50 points)... Well there aren't a whole lot that are exactly comparable but most of them don't have their best seasons in their first 5-7 years in the league.

My advice. Unless it is an INCREDIBLE offer... Do not give up on this guy.

He will get 50 points and could lead the league this season among defensemen in ppp but that won't be his sell high... Hold on to him.
