Don't mistake opinion for fact.
I was wrong in a comment I made in response to a previous thread:
There are FOUR things that are certain in life, not three:
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. MaxPacioretty will play with Gionta and Gomez this year.
4. TEEMU WILL RETURN FOR 2011/2012!!!
Seriously, the way I see it, this guy is 10 years younger than his real age, in mind, spirit, body, enthusiasm for the game, you name it. Plus he loves his teammates, which include two character countrymen of his in Koivu and Lydman. Plus the Ducks could go a long way this year.
All adds up to Teemu returning.

He is going to let us know in September. No doubt he is back.
I traded him at our deadline last season for a pick..thought I could get something for him while he was hot. I got him on the waiver wire so winner winner chicken dinner...

I am with you stone, I think he is making sure he wants to play and has the drive. at 41, I can't believe he hasn't retired.
He did this before. There is no way to really tell except to speculate.

I really liked hearing that Getz and Perry have reached out to him -- that's a good sign. I also think the fact that the season starts in Finland and that he'll get to return to Winnipeg are big. I just hope the knee gets strong.

Now Orange County Register is Reporting a report from MTV3 that if Selanne plays in 2011-12 it will indeed be his last year. http://ducks.ocregister.com/2011/08/...2011-12/70545/
My take is that like any player in any sport, his mind and character are telling him to play another year...or who knows how long. Its been his life for probably 30 something years.
The other hand, his body, is telling him it may be time to call it quits.
I think he is delaying to give his body time to catch up to his head and heart.
If the knee feels good at any point leading up to game 1, he will play...because he's an athlete, a competitor and obviously loves the game.
If the knee says no, I am willing to bet he doesnt retire. Instead I think he just does not sign until the knee is healthy. Maybe November, but continues to train while kids are in school and he is in Anaheim for the season.
Here is hoping, cause I drafted him late as a 4th RW option, and the second he signs I'm trading him for good value.
All vetrans hate training camp.
They get sick of the training and delay retirement decisions.
If you could make 4-6 million a year would you take it?
Still can score..... plus he deserves a proper good bye at rinks across the country.
He will sign for another year but don't expect a healthy season.
Great story , Great Hall of Famer...
Leprechaun
I sure hope he doens't take 4-6 million!! Yes he's probably worth it, but I'm hoping he'll play for the same as last year (3.25) max.

Selanne says he wants to play and wants a final tour around the NHL. It is the state of his knee that will be the final decision, which he will make before Sept 16th. (training camp)
