Sorry, DY. I wasn't sure if you were planning to do a write-up, and considering how much else you do for the site I figured I'd give you a break. Besides, my thoughts are definitely not going to be shared by all.

I (Washington) don't have a pick in the 2nd round, but I'd gladly take on another team if you want me to.

As for Huberdeau being a centre vs winger, I know he's been playing wing with Phillips at centre, but most places still have him listed as a centre. But regardless of that, my point is that he can likely play either position in the NHL, depending on team needs. Florida, if they draft him, might leave (move ) him to centre instead of the wing.

SeaDawg, I gave you STL (they have several picks)

For now, I have taken on LAK (1 pick) as a second team and GMGates has taken on NSH (2 picks) but I am willing to give up LAK if someone else doesn't have a team to represent.

Note: I have added the second round to the original post where we can easily keep track of it. (Thanks Evan for posting it)

Reminder: Two (2) Hour Time Limit Now

    - Make them as short or long as you want
    - From what I can see BUF, WIN, PHI, NYR and WSH don't have 2nd round picks.

I can take LAK if you want since NYR don't have a pick in the 2nd. Let me know.

I'll do my best and I'll have a lot of pressure as it'll be LAK first pick in this draft.

Alright... this was a helluva tough decision for me and donions wasn't around to talk it over with. In the end it came down to either swinging for the fences or taking the safe bet.

"With the first selection in the second round, the Edmonton Oilers are proud to select Jonas Brodin from Farjestad of the SEL."

Dyz's Rationale: This was a very difficult pick. There was no shortage of attractive options at this draft spot and ultimately it came down to taking what seemed to be the safest bet. Brodin certainly isn't a flashy player and doesn't have the upside of other available players but he should be a solid anchor on the Oilers blueline down the road. With Marincin, Petry, Whitney, Gilbert and the recently drafted Beaulieu, I felt the Oilers need a steady presence on the blueline and that is certainly what Brodin brings to the table. While I also considered Scott Mayfield, Victor Rask, and John Gibson at this position, Brodin simply seemed to be the player least likely to bust out of this group.

    Quotes

"Steady, and intelligent is the name of the game for 17-year old who played 42 games this year against men on Sweden's best team. What he is not is the type of dynamic, end-to-end rushing defenseman who will blow past you and score 15 goals in the NHL. What he is is a safe, reliable player with superb lateral mobility and a professional level of puck composure. At 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds he has a lot of filling out to do, but for a team picking between 20 and 30 looking for the safe type of defenseman that you don't notice when he's on the ice, Brodin is a good pick. He will never be an NHL All-Star, but he could be one of those soldiers that you put out there to win a cup."

now that I know what team I have, give me a few minutes to do some quick research on the best pick for St. Louis.

Ugh not sure how I feel about that pick. Really wanted to pick Rask as there will be plenty of good D in next year's draft, but I really didn't expect Brodin to make it out of the first. Just like Beaulieu I felt I had to take the guy who fell way further than he should.

Brodin is a solid pick Dyz. Don't sweat it. It's highly unlikely that he exits the first round anyways.

    St. Louis selects David Musil.

Analysis: At 6’3”, David Musil is a big, shutdown-type of defender. He is a good skater for a man of his size and he will have no problem sending St. Louis’ forwards up the ice with clean, accurate first-passes. Born in Edmonton Alberta, but raised in the Czech Republic, Musil has good pedigree and, like his father before him, will bring to the NHL some grit and defensive prowess.

I like the pick of Brodin. Klefbom is the guy you want to watch on youtube, but Brodin is the guy i'd actually want playing on my team.

Rask sounds like someone you already have - Anton Lander.

The Florida Panthers are proud to select from Chicoutimi, goaltender Chris Gibson. I'm on my phone so I can't write up an explanation.
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
