Keeper selections, need help
Looking for a little advice for the last few slots for my keepers. I am allowed to keep 6 players +2 rookies for a total of 8 players.
I am in a Salary Cap Roto league that uses the following categories:
1) Goals
2) Assists
3) Points Total
4) Points from Defensemen (So Defensemen count in all cats above and then in their own category as well.)
5) +/-
6) PIMs
7) Goalies points (2 points for a W or OT, 4 for SO)
8) GAA

Forwards: Alex Ovechkin, Evengi Malkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Michael Cammalleri, Alex Steen, Dustin Jeffrey, Derek Stepan, Nikita Filatov, Eric Fehr, Max Pacioretty, Nikolay Zherdev, Rich Peverly, Marcus Johansson, Michael Ryder, Simon Gagne
Defense: PK Subban, Tomas Kaberle, Kevin Shattenkirk, Paul Martin, Yannick Weber
Goalies: Ryan Miller, Michal Neuvirth, Marty Turco

If I had to submit my list now I would submit the following as my keepers as I think it is a nice balance in all categories:
Forwards -> Alex Ovechkin, Evengi Malkin, Nicklas Backstrom
Defense -> PK Subban, Tomas Kaberle, Kevin Shattenkirk
Goalies: Ryan Miller, Michal Neuvirth,

I agree with this - keeper selections are on point but cap is a factor. First see where Kaberle ends up and for how much. But say he does sign in a place like DET, he will be a must keep.Originally Posted by Jouko-Pouko

Yeah Kaberle seems to be the possible odd man out, I like having a strong D though so thats why hes included in right now. Salary wise just the 8 I have flagged have a Salary of 38.4 Million. The Cap is 73.4 but will likely increase once the cap in the NHL is raised in the off season. I would need to fill out my team of 12 Forwards, 6 Defense, and 2 Goalies.
Another interesting thing I forgot to add in the original post is I have the rights to Radulov right now, but is that too big a risk?!
Protecting Radulov is out of the question in your situation.

In my opinion, your list is bang on.
The fact that defensive points count as an extra cat justifies keeping Kaberle.
Shattenkirk and Neuvirth as your rookies is a no-brainer.
Go with your gut on this one, as I think you're right.

What is definition of rookies in your league? Also might look at Stepan depending on where and how much Kaberle signs for.
