Duchene has been moved up to LW on the first line with Stastny and Hejduk. This reminds of the days when Hartley would abandon his lines as soon as the Avs were down a goal in the game and started rolling Sakic and Forsberg together.
Galiardi centers Lindstrom and Jones, and the rest is the same.

Small shake up on the back end as well... Hejda -9 and EJ -8 on the season are being split up. EJ will skate with Ryan Wilson, and Hejda will be paired with O'Byrne.
Quincey - O'Brien has been the Avs best pairing so far this season and will remain in tact, probably seeing top pairing minutes perhaps (Quincey at least will with his time on the PP).

Well that is some good news - I own both Stastny and Duchene in one league and it would be great to have them bust out together.
Mueller skated with Duchene and Jones at practice yesterday and may draw into the lineup tonight against the Isles.
When interviewed after practice he said the sit out has been more precautionary and not serious and is taking it one day at a time...
Translation: who the f*ck knows what's going on, but hopefully he is close
The decision about tonight is to come after the morning skate, will keep you posted.
Other Lines:
Lindstrom Stastny Hejduk
Landy OReilly Kobasew
Winnik didn't practice yesterday...

Winnik should be in tonight, was just a little banged up after the Wings game.
Mueller will not play, but has been upgraded to day-to-day.
McClement is a healthy scratch while Galiardi and Porter draw in.
Giggy gets the start and called tonight a must win game.

Another game, another mountain to climb over the final 25 mins to try and come back and earn a point, but the Avs just ran out of time.
I got a chance to watch the game and the Avs D looks ugly... the D's are playing too far to the outside and have too much ground to cover to take away the middle, as such, the Flames were able to own the middle of the ice in the Avs zone. The pairing of EJ and Wilson looked atrocious, and out of position. For a bigger defence, they don't seem very physical, if anything they upgraded from medium sized pylons to large pylons and lost some foot speed in the process. I can't get over how immobile EJ looks right now, he must be playing with very little confidence.
In terms of offense, the teams philosophy is dump and chase. Which is fine since they have a good fore check that creates turnovers, however when it comes to sustaining offensive pressure it's all along the boards and on the outside, there is no inside penetration or presence in the slot to setup in a scoring position or to pick up a loose puck/rebound.
I would be happy to see Sacco dropped before the team tumbles further down the standings. Dropping 3 games to the last place (in the division) Flames is just pathetic. How many times can you not be ready to bust your ass when the puck drops and have a slow start??

Finally the Avs have at least named a captain.... Milan Hejduk gets the C for the season.
I don't mind the choice, but he's a quiet leader, which may not bode very well when your coach is fairly reserved as well for motivating the troops in the locker room.
I'm wondering if the team had someone else in mind, however that individual just didn't step up *cough* Johnson *cough*

Quick Notes:
Yip is travelling with the team on their short two game road trip and may be in the lineup tonight against the Pens, giving them a big body that will hopefully crash the net.
Mueller did not accompany the team and will skate on his own in Denver until the team returns. They are saying that he hasn't had a setback, but is not quite game ready.
I'll be watching the Pens Avs game tonight, and was hoping to see Crosby back in action... unfortunately not so, which is fine as it gives the Avs a glimmer of hope of pulling out a W. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to newly appointed captain Milan Hejduk. Please not another 3-0 deficit after 20-25 mins.
*******
Just reading a Denver Post article posted late last night and came across this:
I know the team said that they would announce it a day before, but... read into it what you will, and since when have the teams ever been honest in any regards towards injuries and returning to action. It remained a question into Monday night whether Duchene would get his wish. NHL.com reported Crosby would not play, but Penguins coach Dan Bylsma left the door open Monday. After Crosby practiced with the Penguins on Monday morning, Bylsma played coy with the media, saying there was "no change" in Crosby's status. Crosby hasn't played a game since Jan. 5.
Asked if Crosby would play, Bylsma said, "I'm not saying he won't."
If I were the Pens I wouldn't announce Crosby's return in order to avoid the media circus that is sure to follow before he even takes his first shift in an official game.

Yes not happy about EJs lack of everything. But besides that in a dysnasty league where we count FOWs I just acquired stastny. Reassure me that he is still a great player?

Stastny is a very good player. If the line of him, Hejduk and Duchene stays together it will produce night in and night out. His hustle and physical play to knock Letang off the puck (on a side note Letang is deceivingly strong, he hit McLeod and sent him flying as if he were Nathan Gerbe) and set up Duchene for his highlight reel goal.

Dear Colorado Avalanche
Get your shit in order! I need Varlamov to get wins and shutouts, instead the team doesn't know how to play defense it seems.
Will the defense start playing better please. I seriously can't afford to lose anymore games from Varlamov.
If anything, I need his trade value to shoot up so I can unload that bum...
Thanks
Dutch
Well, Joe Sacco is still the team's head coach, and put the team through an intense 90 minute practice on Monday which included a bag skate, the first one of the year. Sacco even let loose on a couple of occasions yelling at his young team during the session.
We'll see what the lines look like against Vancouver on Wednesday. Most recently we saw:
Stastny with Yip and Porter
Duchene with Landeskog and Hejduk
O'Reilly with Winnik and Jones
McLement with Galiardi and Kobasew
I'm still not sure why he insists on trying to create 3 scoring lines when we don't have the depth on the wings to do so, personally I don't see why he doesn't leave Duchene on the LW with Stastny and Hejduk and replace Winnik with Jones on the O'Reilly and Landeskog tandem. Than string together a third checking line and a fourth energy line.
Hejda and EJ are a combined -27. That is filthy...Hejda is -15 which is tied for the league worst with Eric Staal. Perhaps a healthy scratch would send a message??? If you don't want to put in Hunwick than call up Elliott who is having a solid rookie season in the AHL with 9 pts. in 18 games with a +5 (tops on the LE Monsters I believe).
Sounds like Semyon Varlamov will be back to start against the Canucks and has spent the last 7 days with goalie coach Kirk McLean studying lots of film, and really working on Varly's biggest issues which are his angles. Varly is prepared for the challenge and is well aware of what the Avs gave up in the offseason to aquire him.
Of note, since returning from shoulder surgery C.Desjardins is 4-2-1 with a 1.70 GAA and a .947 SV% down in Lake Erie.

I forgot to mention that Peter Mueller continues to practice and skate hard with the team, but still has not given indication of when he hopes to return to game action. He mentioned wanting to put together a string of good days together. Take from it what you will, maybe we'll see him on this homestand (7 games left), but realistically we may not see him until around Xmas.
