Exclamation Goalie Tier-ing (2014-2015 Edition): Dobber Forums "Consensus" Edition

I thought it would be valuable to have:

    Dobber Forums "Consensus" Edition.

If you like a goalie and think he should be higher... say so!
If you do not like a goalie and think he should be lower... say so!
If two people chime in with like or dislike on the same goalie, I'll shift them.

One of the most critical things to do in any fantasy hockey pool is to establish goalie DEMAND.
    Not just value, but "demand".

In a 8-team league starting 2G, that's 16G in play. Maybe everybody rosters a 3rd. 24G. But that still means you can find a starting goalie on the wire.
In a 12-team league starting 2G, that's 24G in play. Maybe everybody rosters a 3rd. 36G. Now all 30 starters are gone + 6 of the best back-ups! (Allen, Gibson, MIN back-up, Svedberg?, Talbot?, Greiss?)

So... TIER-ing goalies can be important because it establishes who is going to fall and IN. WHAT. ORDER.
This can help a GM avoid missing out on a goalie run or forecast how far away their "target goalie" is.

Please comment on goalies with consideration ONLY to the following categories for a ONE-YEAR-POOL:
    i) Wins
    ii) SV%
    iii) GAA
    iv) Total Saves (SV)

[These are the most common goalie stats used in majority of leagues... though I know some leagues don't count "SV"]

    Pretty solid list.

    ONly changes I might suggest:

    - Lehtonen should be Tier II
    - Miller Tier IV
    - Mason Tier III
    - Hiller and Anderson (ANA) Tier IV
    - Also tempted to have Allen and Gibson at Tier IV, they're such good prospects and may become no 1 even this year, in which case they'd likely vault all the way to Tier II.

The tier III/IV group and the IV group are very close together. I would almost merge them and drop Anderson out because I dont know if he's as quality as guys like Howard and Bernier.

Right, but that doesn't automatically bump him down to the 2nd worst starter in the league. I see him as closer to an Anderson and even a Luongo, and think he can perform quite well in Calgary in terms of GAA and SV% although he'll struggle with the W category, and the Calgary D is a tad underrated in my view. I think a bump up of a few spots is appropriate.

I think the guy was correcting you on your list... where you say Hiller and Andersen (ANA).
You wrote the (ANA) to clarify Andersen...
And I think he corrected you thinking you thought Hiller was still in ANA (because of the brackets).

    My guess.

    Misunderstanding is all, I believe.

Agree with these and would add:

Niemi Too Low - He's been one of the best fantasy goalies out there for the past 4 seasons - he should be Tier 2
Varlamov Too High - He should swap places with Lehtonen - he had ONE big year - I'm not sold on him as a Tier 2 yet.
Luongo Too Low - He wont rack up a ton of Ws in FLA - but he'll be solid on GAA and SV% and be elite on SVs.

That's my only changes, in addition to the excellent work that PMorrow started.

Well, based on the agreement of Savvy & pmorrow... I'll make some first switches.

Though saying "too low" or "too high" is too vague (! ) and gives little help to actually pegging how far.
I'll bump everybody a spot or two.

I would move Schneider down a couple of spots. I think he’s due for a bad year because the defence in front of him isn’t that great, and he’s never played more than 45 games in an NHL season, so he’ll wear down as the season goes on. Plus, I don’t see New Jersey winning a bunch of games.

I’d move Varlamov down. I think he will regress a little bit.

I’d move Niemi up. He’s still the #1 goalie in San Jose and still put up great numbers there (plus he’ll get a bunch of wins and enough shutouts).

I’d move Miller down. The Canucks are going to struggle.

I’d move Craig Anderson down, while moving Lehner up. I think the Sens will go with a 50-50 split.

Also, shouldn’t the last seven guys all be tied for 54, instead of 60?

    To me....

Quick down to II - I just don't think he'll fill out SV, SV%, GAA like the other three elite options
Varlamov down to II/III - He's a prime candidate for regression in my eyes and isn't a top flight option
Elliot down to III/IV - I just don't think he'll get the starts to justify his current tier
Holtby down to III/IV - need to see more from him still
Bernier up to III - this might be more hoping on my part, but I think he has it in him
Luongo up to III - I think he will once again thrive in Florida
Halak up to III/IV - As long as he can stay healthy he may even deserve to be higher then this
    S. Mason V - still not convinced he's back
