Default Howard without Lidstrom.....

So before the season ended I was quite happy on my goalie situation. Rinne should be ok for me and a lock to play around 60-70 games. Howard unfortunatly is a tough one. How does Lidstrom effect his situation. Is he still a clear cut keeper? or should I trade him before or if his value goes down.

I was hoping they would land Suter and everything would be half decent...

Do you start 2 goalies?
Draft Guffstason to cover your ass.
Make a move , maybe Semin , and keep Huberdeau.

We do have both goalies count. I was thinking of getting Schneider, lindback or rask to bail me out if need be.

This is an interesting one... Just looking into it a bit more and I think you do bring up a good point about Howard possibly suffering with Lidstrom's absence.

Lidstrom missed 11 games during the season, which saw the Red Wings go 3-6-2 during that span. They' also allowed an average of 2.91 goals per game compared to 2.37 with Lidstrom in the lineup. I know it is a small sample size, but it could foreshadow what could possibly happen this campaign...

During that span Howard went 1-2-1 while posting a 2.75 GAA along with a .887 SP as well. So not really convincing stats.

Like you said if they landed Suter I think it would have given me more confidence, but they haven't found a Lidstrom replacement and things could go south very quickly if they don't address that hole on their blue-line.

I'd definitely shop him because he does have a "big name" and you should get a decent replacement in return.

Now that Suter is gone and Lidstrom , I would entertain offers for both Howard & Rinne.
Take the best offer for either goalie , protect the remainer and draft a Schneider , Bernier , Lindback.Montoya , Guffstason , may be good gamble picks.Markstrom may be cheap with
Luongo to Fla. rumors still flying.

The Lidstrom effect helped Howard tremendously. There was a reason Detroit was rumored to be shopping for help between the pipes because the team isn't overly confident in Howard

I'd certainly be shopping him and see if you can upgrade another player

This is scary... I thought with both those goalies that i'd be a lock for many years to come.. Now everythings changed.. I knew about Lidstrom retiring soon but i thought Nashville would keep both Weber and Suter..

Looks like i may need to dab in the goalie market to see if i can trade one..

The key point with Lidstrom is that over his career he didnt miss many games. So, we dont really know or appreciate his impact on the goalies. Combined with Brad Stuart gone (a good PKer), I'd be a big seller on Howard. Detroit hasnt replaced them so far. Smith will likely be just average defensively near term.
