This was my first game that I saw start to finish. The Habs played an excellent game from start to finish. They controlled the play and were opportunistic. The Hurricanes were awful but it still takes a few goals to really put the game away.
Petr Budaj: Excellent game. Made some timely saves when the game was still 0-0. He was in control for all of his half-game.
Dustin Tokarski: Not nearly as tested as Budaj but the key is he didn't give up any stinkers. Did everything that he had to do.
Michael Bournival: The best player tonight. He was the leader of his line with Patrick Holland and Michael McCarron. Not the best of wingers to have but he came out with two points and was everywhere. I do not believe he will be a big scorer in the NHL but could be a quality depth player. He could be on the roster to open the season and if not then he has probably earned the right to be the first player called up.
Patrick Holland: Not as talented as Bournival but played hard all night. He is pretty crafty with the puck.
Michael McCarron: He has a flawed game because of his massive size at such a young age. He still has good offensive instincts. Knows where to go to get chances. Needs to improve his skating and stickhandling.
Gabriel Dumont: Played a decent game but didn't show anything more than an ability to play on an energy line in the NHL.
David Desharnais: Strong game with good effort along the boards and excellent playmaking. Looked like the player that earned his scoring line role.
Max Pacioretty: Not as noticeable as Desharnais but still dangerous in scoring situations. Did well shooting high when Cam Ward dropped his blocker on the penalty shot.
Sebastien Collberg: Showed some flashes of great skill with the puck. Had a few chances to score.
Christian Thomas: Quiet night aside from a few great bursts of skating. Worked hard and wasn't bad by any means.
Alex Galchenyuk: Excellent all night. He has elite-level skill and did very well playing center. He was turned loose and looked like a star.
Brandon Prust: Good outing with some strong effort plays all over the ice. He does a bit of everything for the Habs.
PK Subban: Excellent game controlling the play with the puck. Also made some good defensive plays. He was more in control than he was against Boston.
Jarred Tinordi: Awesome game. He looks ready to make the jump. Good physical and positional play in addition to some flashes of being able to contribute a bit offensively.
Greg Pateryn: He has really stepped up this year and is pushing for a roster spot. Time is running out for him as a prospect. He showed decent instincts at both ends but was trying to do too much at times.
Magnus Nygren: Was quiet for the most part but put in a few solid minutes at the end of the game. Skates well and looks confident with the puck.
Darren Dietz: He is farther along in his development than many of us thought. He skates well and looked good in offensive situations.

Tinordi is looking MEAN out there!
His checks last night at the blue line were impressive... And he stomped guys like E.Staal and Ruutu, not some inexperienced rookies.

[D] Heiskanen, Theodore, Dobson

With the injuries Tinordi will be up. He could step right in and steal Emelin's eventual spot. I find he is more aware in positioning than Emelin anyway.
It sucks in a way because it could result in Bouillon or Murray (both one-year deals) being demoted eventually. Drewiske going down at some point seems like a foregone conclusion.
Up front I think Moen and White are in a bit of danger. White is at most risk because Moen's contract will give him a longer leash.

So far the standouts among the training camp hopefuls are Tinordi and Bournival. Pateryn is a distant third and Dietz a distant fourth. The rest showed glimpses but not enough for me to say they are ready to do anything more than play a few shifts and not embarrass the team. Guys like Collberg and Thomas are talented enough to have a good night but could just as easily be awful the next night. Not ready to be NHL regulars IMO.
So up front the Habs have one guy ready to be called up from the minors (Bournival) and one guy who can maybe play a fourth-line role (Dumont). It could get rough if the team gets hit with a few injuries at forward.
