So, how much time have you wasted on Facebook since it's inception 10 years ago. I got 34 days, 14hours and 57 minutes, 58 minutes, 59 minutes......

I thought it would have a way to actually calculate, rather than an estimate on the time spent by an average user. I'm positive I don't spend 17 minutes a day on Facebook.

I have never been on the site once. I did like the movie though. When my daughters get older I'll have to learn how to Facebook I suppose to keep an eye on em.

Yeah, this site is a far bigger time suck than Facebook for me too.
Even when I take time away from the forums, I still read the Ramblings every day, and pretty much every article.

Not sure why people are proud to have 0 minutes on facebook. You get what you put into it. It's like Twitter. Most of the people on here are so anti twitter. Again, not sure why. Follow 4-5 people, make your account private don't even tweet and you will be getting news/updates way faster than you are now.
I use facebook probably 5 min a day to keep in touch with friends and family from afar.
The problem is I would say 80% of people don't know how or why they use social media.

It's a lot faster to share stories/pictures with family & close friends using Facebook than by mass e-mail (or other means).
There's really some good ways to use it.
I argue about this with my mom who thinks our generation is ridiculous for "sharing everything" with "everyone"... and I have to tell her how many people do NOT use it wisely.
But totally agree - it can be a really good tool for people that use it wisely.
(Unf, most people have just used it as a general 'everybody I know' collector and they waste their time sifting through what basically amounts to junkmail... thousands of "MMMM, having a great coffee" posts or... "Can't believe Obama just did this" / "Repulicans are being idiots again" posts... I'm constantly telling my wife to just unfriend people that aren't adding any value. But she doesn't it... she likes some of the drama/opinionated stuff that people have to say. It can be like getting sucked in by one of those talk shows - Jerry Springer: PeopleYouKnow Edition)

To be fair, I don't view time on this site as a "waste" relative to facebook.
Time spent on this site is done because we enjoy it - it's a hobby. There is something about facebook that is very "unsatisfying" in its very nature.
Time spent on facebook is time spent doing one of the following:
- seeing annoying posts that make you angry or irritated
- seeing the best moments of everyone elses life and wishing you were doing that at that moment
Both of the above are a very unsatisfying way to spend time. Fortunately, I find time spent on this site to be beneficial from a personal-enjoyment level.
