You are missing my point. It doesn't matter that Alfredsson had a blank check. If the team isn't going to make moves to be better for the next two years along with re-sign him, then he leaves.

Why sign for 2 million if they aren't going to use the money elsewhere to improve a Cup run chance. Why sign for 6 million if you want a chance to contend.

I have no problem with the decision he made. I completely respect it.

I believe the money is there though. We will see what happens.

It's obviously not about the money. Whether or not Detroit is better than Ottawa is up in the air - more moves could come to either team. Alfie has his own opinion as well.

I'm assuming he didn't want to sign with Boston (better team) because they are sort of rivals and it would hurt the fans more. Also, Detroit plays a similar system to Ottawa so it will be a seamless move. Lots of Swedish connections as well.

How did TSN know not just the team but also the contract terms before Detroit was allowed to offer a contract?

Seems silly that teams and players weren't allowed to discuss contract terms during this 2-day pre-frenzy period. If they thought teams were jumping the gun in previous years, I'm sure it happened even more this year with the visits. They should just allow it outright.

I remember when Smyth left Edmonton. It sucked and Alfredsson is WAY better than Smyth ever was. Hopefully Alfredsson doesn't return to the Senators as a washed up old bum who doesn't know when to retire like Ryan Smyth.
