no way but it appears you already pulled the trigger
Hey Guys,
I was offered Kessel for my Arvidsson in my sig cap league.
I really like Arvy and his very friendly cap hit though Kessel is better.
Would you do it?

read it wrong sorry. He is significant upgrade can you make the cost increase work is the question. If so it's a no brainer but Kessel is what 8M against cap per season?

Yep 8M per year for Phil and 4.25M per year for Viktor (for the next 7 years... one of the best contract to have in a salary cap league).

well you can make it work though it leaves you with less than 1M to work with. JVR is going to see significant pay upgrade this summer in free agency so you'll be in a conundrum once he signs elsewhere.

Arvidsson provides better value than Kessel. With a low cap like your league is using, I'd keep Arvidsson.
"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary, full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen." - Sterling Archer
"Don't spray that urine on my sons window. If you want a dollar for doing nothing, walk to Canada." - Malory Archer
“Anyone who thinks the pen is mightier than the sword has not been stabbed with both.” - Lemony Snicket
I agree with this. I think Arvidsson at that cap hit carries very little risk of his performance not living up to his paycheck and adding Kessel now leaves you way too close to the cap. Kessel is an amazing player, but I'm not sold on Pittsburgh maintaining their complete dominance of the east going forward into the same time frame. If Kessel and Pitts didn't have all of the PP points they have this year, where are they? Kessel has scored over half his points on the PP and this adds to his risk and at an $8M cap hit, you can't afford to have an underperforming player you can't get the value out of. If Kessel and the Pens stop performing as they have been, you have an $8M anchor. I mean Pitts can't score at evens very well now and it's not like Kessel is going to have 40+ PPP this year.
This all being said, I'd rather have Kessel going forward than Johansen at that same $8M... If you could grab Kessel and trade Johansen, I'd do that in a second. While I am bearish on Pittsburgh over the long term, I have less faith in Johansen earning that $8M than Kessel in fantasy. Johansen is relied upon to do more than what your point categories are in your pool. He is in your settings a much better NHL player than fantasy player. Kessel is not leaving that 1PP any time soon and the Pens are so deadly on the PP.
What do you think you could get in return for Johansen and would you trade him?
I would be keeping Arvie as well. Kessel doesn't provide double his value, or even 1.5x. I would use the 4M to be upgrading somewhere else.

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
Arvie's contract is goal, there is no way I'd move it for Kessel.
I wish my league would adopt a salary cap
Yeah 4 more years(after this one) at 8m is a little too much for 30 yr old, while healthy, has played alot of hockey the last 2 years & could do another run this year. Wear and tear.
Add to that what FF said. The pens will decline and his production will be affected over the course of those years.
Just curious how your team is doing?
You've set your team up nicely salary wise. And JTs contract is coming off the books this year. And JP next year. Also what will you decide on Matheson? Almost 5m starting next year.

I'm with you. Always thought it'd be fun--although adopting one is probably very tough. Would need to start anew.
