Vanek's story is the same every year... he starts off hot and then dissappears, most of the time because of injury. No surprise.
From NHL.com
In addition to seeing another much-needed two points vanish, Buffalo also lost its top scorer, Thomas Vanek, who left the ice during the third period with an upper-body injury and did not return.
To think I made an offer of Carlson and a 3rd for him earlier today which was rejected... Thank goodness!

With Vanek out, I'd want to guess that Pominville's value takes a major hit? Worthy of a drop in deeper leagues?

Not sure what you mean. The guy's only missed 27 games in the last 7 years (not counting this season). That's an avg. of only 3.8 games a year. Not bad.
Anyway I think this is a lingering problem from taking a shot in the side in front of the net. He was seen walking around Sabres practice today gingerly.
Broken ribs maybe? Speculation only.

As a previous Vanek owner I completely understand the frustration expressed by OP. You think you're on the road to riches, and then 30 games in you realize he's not going to score as many points anymore, because he's always dealing with some type of injury. He can play through the injury and this isn't really represented in the Games Played stats, but his scoring always tails off as the season drags on.

What makes it worse for Vanek owners...it always seems he's a game time decision...tough in League's like mine where we change lineups only once per week on Saturdays. See:
Thomas Vanek (upper body) is uncertain to play in the Sabres' back-to-back set Saturday and Sunday.
Vanek missed Thursday's game after suffering the injury during Tuesday's game against Toronto. After a ridiculously hot start to the season, cold stretches and injuries have caught up to the Austrian winger. He still leads the Sabres with 16 goals and 33 points in 29 games.
