Lmao. And they already burned a year of his ELC at this point right?
Horrible asset management. But at least they didn't compound the error by giving him the niņo treatment.

Saw it coming, but nonetheless there it is

Just ridiculous ..... yep one "year" burned to play in a total 22 games at an average icetime of 9:44/game ..... so do the math we are talking less than 220 minutes of ice-time for a year off his ELC.
It's for the best. They screwed up but at least they can admit it. This will really help Grigs development in my opinion.

He needs to get some confidence back. He wasn't awful, but not nearly ready enough like some of us thought. I'm happy they could admit they screwed up and sent him to where he needs to be.

1g 3a today vs a very good team in Rimouski.
He ends the season with 54 points in 33 games. That's a 96.5 point pace. I bet that pace would have been even higher if he had played the entire season down in the Q. However, I think the experience he gained in the NHL really helped him.
I think he's going to do some damage in the playoffs.

depending on when those playoffs end he could be back before this season is over
Two things here:
1) This is proof of horrible asset management. There was clearly a disconnect between coach and GM. It's like Ruff didn't want Grigorenko around.
2) Regardless of the past, they made the right decision for today.

Yeah it was a dumb decision to keep him up but I'll copy what I read over at HFBoards:
I think the experience he gained is pretty important and the bolded point is huge. It's not really a big deal. Pegula has deep pockets and is willing to spend so I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making it out to be.Why I believe Grigorenko was sent down and the rationale behind it:
After playing in his 6th game, Grigorenko and the Sabres did use up a year of his ELC, however because he played in less than 23 games (He played in 22), he did not "accrue a season." So again, even though playing more than 5 games would burn the first year of Grigorenko's entry level contract, it would not immediately register 2013 as an "accrued year of service" for him when figuring out UFA eligibility. In the short season, an NHL player must be dressed for 23 games for it to count as an accrued year. What this means since he played less than 23 games this season, Grigorenko will still need 7 years of service before being eligible for unrestricted free agency.
So ya, we kinda screwed up this year with him. But I choose to see the positive side of this as:
A) We save a year of his free agency status.
B) While he didn't play as much as we all hoped or with players we would've liked, he did get some experience being a NHLer.
C) Hopefully this will light a fire under him and we see him control the Q. It's playoff time for them so Grigo will be thrown into the fire.
