I'm happy with that actually. Still butthurt over the Grabbo buyout and Bozak signing though.

Don't get me wrong... this is still a terrible signing. It just could have been worse. A guy who is a good 3rd liner type paid like an average 1st liner. At least he wasn't paid like a good first liner.

Limited NTC and NMC? For 7 years.

    I like this tweet lol

The no-trade clause in the Clarkson deal is actually just the dollar amount and term.

Did JFJ hack Nonis's GM account?

Seriously, DGB can start recycling jokes if the Leafs are once again at the 'NMC/NTC = candy' stage.

Wow, I was hearing 6 so I can appreciate the mild sense of relief you must feel but 7 years @ 5.25 is still pretty crazy for a guy who is sort of one-dimensional.

    Great contract.

The term sucks, but 7 years into this CBA the cap will be much higher and he will probably take less of a % of the pie then compared to now.

    The deal makes sense.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this leave the Leafs with about $9M in cap space with Kadri, Franson, Gunnarsson, and Bernier left to re-sign?

Edit: Never mind didn't realize Capgeek already added the two new contracts.

Yeah much better than what I had expected in terms of $$$. I suppose the trade-off is the term.

    I'm sorry bud.
I wish I could take back all the bad things I've written to you.

And to all Leafs fans who defend this Clarkson signing...

    um

    nevermind

    No energy.
awwww, can you feel the love folks?

seriously though, first and foremost as a hockey fan I wouldn't wish the last 48hrs of Leafs activity on any fan. I just don't understand the thought process here at all.

That's because you're assuming that there is a thought process...

Again, when the cap increases by year 2-3 on this deal, this contract will be perfect.

Overpay the first couple years, and get a great deal the last 3-4 years (projected).

5.25M isn't even that bad!! People were expecting a lot worse!

The thought process is the Leafs are a tougher team to play against now.

While I don't agree with how Grabo was used, Bolland will replace his defensive minutes and is almost 2M cheaper.

Bozak can handle himself on the first line next to Kessel and was an important figure for defensive faceoffs last year, and more importantly in the playoffs.

Clarkson brings that gritty style, and finally we have someone to park himself in front of the net on the PP. Not to mention some bang in our top 6 now. Something we didn't have before.

I still don't like our center depth, Bozak, Kadri, Bolland, McClement, Colborne...but we've replaced Bolland with Grabo (the way Grabo was being used) while saving money and upgraded a winger in Clarkson.

Again, I can't stress enough about the available cap going up. I don't have time right now, but I want to go back to the last lockout and check out the deals signed that July 1st and compare them 2-3 years into the CBA and see (in my opinion) how much better the contract got throughout the years.

The Leafs will be a harder to play against this year. I'm sure of it.

The fact that MacT walked away from this type of deal makes me very very happy right now.
