There's no signing bonus but there is $1M performance bonus. Only 35+ players and players on ELC can get performance bonuses, so we don't see them too often.

Whoops, I saw that wrong then. Nice catch. Curious then what the Performance bonus criteria is.

Because they didn't have as much to try and protect.

Van losing Sbisa hurts their chances of pushing for the #1 pick next year. That guy is a sieve on D. They needed him to account for at least 3 losses personally next season -

Now what? They go and try to sign Will Butcher... it's almost like Benning is becoming an intelligent GM (ALMOST)

    Agree w/others.

    Calgary lost the least.
Engelland has been a Vegas resident for 10+ years, he played ECHL there in 2003-2004 and settled.
He's probably known for a while now that he would take a low-value contract to be close to home (though he acts like it was a newly proposed idea... I mean, the guy has two young kids!!!).

Thinking like McPhee... they know they can only roster 23.
The rest must pass through waivers, so they might even take a guy that they think could pass through waivers.
A guy like Brickley (CAR) is just a "last of 30" pick... I'd even speculate he was the 30th.

Bellemare (PHI) is actually a good PK man and super clubhouse guy.
PHI will miss him in that regard, he's replaceable... but the value of these guys is real.
We've seen NYI handout a nice contract to same type of player in Cizikas... and DET do it with Helm.
If a guy can play defensive assignments, kill penalties, and be good in locker-room, he does have real value to an organization.

Whoa. Don't get ahead of yourself. Benning didn't get VGN to take Sbisa, so he gets no credit. And I'm petrified Benning moves #5 for E Kane at some point. Oh, and re-signing Miller seems inevitable.

McPhee got absolutely caved in by the rest of the league.

All the more reason to think Calgary lost the least. Here is a guy that lives in Vegas already and probably would've signed with the Knights regardless. Shrewd move, Treliving.
