    Default Holtby vs Halak

I own Halak but there is a chance I could acquire Holtby for him. Who would you rather own in league in my sig? Would be nice for some cap relief this season but that's not essential.

Halak and it's not even close. I own both in my keeper league and I would ask for A LOT more if someone asked for Halak instead of Holtby.

Halak for as long as St. Louis has a great defensive system. However, it's quite possible (or maybe even probable) that Holtby will be worth more 3-4 years down the line.

Your league seems to heavily value starters that will win a lot of games.

Yeah, with Halak there is a risk of Brian Elliott coming in and stealing starts...but who is to say that Neuvirth won't do the same to Holtby?
Has Holtby even been confirmed as being the Capitals' starting goaltender to start the season?

Not that I'm knocking Holtby or implying that he doesn't have value. But it's just important to consider these factors when trying to decide between taking the established veteran versus the young talent that left a lasting impression.

Being a salary league I can understand why you are entertaining this idea as Halak comes in between 4.25-4.5M for the next couple of seasons whereas Holtby is making 600k next year...but cap relief isn't that important to you and there's a chance that you deal an established starter that will win a lot of games for a young gun who may take a backseat to another young starter over the course of the season.

Go with what you know and stick with Halak

Halak. Think he's in for a very good year on a team that will be that much better with a young Tarasenko.

Elliot just isin't made to carry a team the full distance. A healthy Halak will get the premium time and starts.

    Holtby in another year.
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.

While I think Halak is the better option, its closer than some think. Plus Halak will never get into that 65-70 start range. He's more like 50-55 which hurts the win totals.

Agree with everything you say but again Holtby is in a similar situation.

No, Holtby is not in a similar situation. Halak is the starter. He has a good backup keeping him on his toes, yes, but he is the starter. Holtby is not even a starting goalie yet. And no, two playoff series do not make him a starting goalie.

WELL I am just projecting. I see a battle between holtby and Neuvirth for sure.

But last time i checked Halak, while he is the #1 Goalie, played 46 games last year vs Elliotts 38.

Projecting though i expect Halak to start a bit more though next season.

Otherwise last seasons results is all we can go with for now.

I meant that Halak isnt able to play a lot of games or else he wears down.

Thanks all for the sage advice. Given that the ansers range from the "definitely Halak" to the "marginally Halak", this is a pretty clear sign to me. Some great insight. I'll doll out rep as I can.
