go with any team that you think can win games for pitchers. Saves and Wins make up a large portion of a pitchers value. So classics like teh Yankees, BoSox, Angels, ect. are all good targets. It is not a bad idea to grab guys at the mid to tail end of their rotations at the end of the draft. Look at a guy like Ervin Santana (tail end of the Angels rotation this year), Mike Mussina (tail end of Yankees rotation this year) as guys who you could have gotten in the 200-250 overall picks. Closers also normally work in similar ways, A closer on the yankees will get more opportunites than one on the pirates.
For hitters it is nice to look to the same teams. A guy at the 7 or 8 hole in Boston is surrounded by players as good as the guy hitting 3rd on the Royals. That actually speaks to another place to look, the heart of the order in bad teams. Look for 3-4-5 hitters on the Pirates and Royals. They pay off even more if they get traded and hit in solid parts of better teams orders.
Now to the actual question.
1. Rangers.
No one on the team stood out too far going into this year, but with Kinsler and Hamilton tearing it up the team will push more next year to win. Look for their corner OF next year to bring up some talent, and hopefully either Blalock with work out or they will bring in a better 3B. The reality of this team is that they have very good 2-3-4 hitters (young, kinsler and hamilton) but still need a legit 1 and 5 hitters to complete that murders row. With the hitting falling into place they may make a splash for pitchers, but Texas has always been a hitting only team.
2. Rockies. Everyone on that team is cheap (you may have to give up something for Holliday and Atkins, but they are monsters and still undervalued). It is a traditional hitters park and has a ton of young talent hanging around waiting to break out (see Ian Stewart who is boosting his value for next year by playing all over the feild when he gets the chance. I would avoid most of thier pitchers too. Some have done well here, but look what Coors did to Mike Hampton a few years back. The only pitcher i ever take from colorado is their closer.
their Sp is coming around with Jiminez working out very well, Delarosa being a future player, and Francis/Cook being able to win there. I still do not trust anyone pitching there (look at how francis fell off).
3. San Diego.
The hitters are young and talented, and it is a real pitchers park. gonzalez is a proven 1B, he is not amazing but is better than average. Guys like Kouzmanoff are still very cheap and solid. The real value on the team is in the pitchers. PEavy is the proven stud, but Young is coming off an injury and is going to be cheap and ready for the playoffs. Josh Banks and Maddux are good for WHIP and ERA control in H2H leagues with no IP limit.
