Yakupov. Funny how if 100 scouts say Yakupov and one says Galchenyuk that it's suddenly a debate. It's not. Yakupov is clear-cut #1.
With the recent article at hockeyprospect.com (http://hockeyprospect.com/index.php/...yuk-is-#1.html) that puts Galchenyuk at #1 with Yakupov at#2, I'm wondering what you guys here think of it.

No offense to the writers there but the Central Scouting Report/CSS Rankings hold more value to me. I mean, we're talking about hobby writers versus actual paid professionals of the NHL, etc aren't we? Correct me if I am wrong...
With that said, it is nice to see a different perspective on things and enjoyed the read. But at the end of the day, Yakupov is my pick over Galchenyuk hands down...and when I say this, I am referring to the overall talent...nothing fantasy hockey related.
I think as mentioned there would have been more discussion about Galchenyuk at the top had he not missed almost the entire season this year with that knee injury but i still think Yakupov is the most dynamic player in the draft and deserves the number 1 ranking. For what its worth when i was watching TSN the other day for the draft lottery Bob McKenzie said 9 of 10 NHL scouts surveyed had Yakupov at the number one spot, that's a veritable landslide.

I wish this guy would stop getting media attention... he needs to fly under the radar so that he falls to #5
If anybody is actually considering taking anybody in the 2012 draft class over Yacky, there are seriously missing the boat on this one. Galchenyuk will be really good. But Yacky is going to be "GREAT"..

I will correct you here. HockeyProspect is an independent scouting service and I am in contact with the Sarnia based scout, Ryan Yessie, who pushed for Galchenyuk for #1. I don't disagree with the rating as my guy tells me that Galchenyuk projects to be the better NHL player but Yakupov's potential is certainly higher. However, I don't think I would have the gonads to rank Galchenyuk over Yakupov at this point in time after only watching him in 8 games. But last season, he was as good as Yakupov many nights and to finish the season he DEFINITELY outplayed Yakupov. Ryan will tell you that the difference between them in their rankings is miniscule but he does like Galchenyuk's NHL game better.
These are not "hockey writers". HP Staff are scouts that travel from rink to rink ranking these players. RIght now, they have their head scout oversees taking in the U18 World Hockey Championships in CZE REP.
If I am drafting in fantasy leagues, I am taking Yakupov every time. However, if I am an NHL GM then I am definitely not making that decision so quickly. Yakupov will most likely (99% sure) go 1st overall but had Galchenyuk played a full season I think we would be looking at more of a 55-45 split between these two so it's not unreal to see a ranking of Galchenyuk #1

IMO, I can easily see yakupov doing great beside Nash ..
People are only saying that it's not close between the two because of what the media has said this year. The media has influenced people's opinions and because Galchenyuk has been injured for pretty much the entire year, everybody thinks it's laughable that he may be now ranked up there by some people. A skilled centre like him, who has just as much skill and plays better defensively, will get the recognition come draft day. Centres are often preferred to wingers anyway.
Can I just say that if there was some possible way to timewarp the development of these two like three-years ahead that I would unquestionably be pushing for the Oilers to draft Galchenyuk first overall. He just fits with what they need. In fact, to take it a step further, I think he's what any team looking to win a Cup somewhere down the road needs. Size and skill at the center and D positions are where it is at in this league. Sure you need skill on the wings too but centers and D are how you dominate puck possession. Galchenyuk is a puck possession beast. I want, I want, I want.
Now please excuse me while I sick some Libyans on Doc Brown.
