    Default Who wins the Calder?

I searched for a thread on this and was surprised I didn't find one

its pretty tight pts-wise between Hopkins, Landeskog and Henrique down the stretch. Some interesting considerations though. Had Hopkins not missed 20 games he would have ran away with this, from a pure scoring/talent perspective he's the guy...but the Calder is based on play during the regular season, not ifs, ands and buts and as far as elevating one's team its hard to argue with what Landeskog has done this season, the Avs wouldn't be in the playoff hunt without him while the Oilers would be bringing up the rear with or without RNH this season. Henrique has played very well himself but I feel he has benefitted as much by playing on NJ as they have benefitted from having him on the roster.

There was a thread discussing this a few weeks ago, but no harm in starting a new one. Might have been under Landeskog's name

    Edit: nevermind, MD found it

dammnit the search on here is not especially good, I need to remember to use google instead...anyway, I guess its fair game to start a new one now that its down to the final 5-6 games and the race is neck and neck

RNH would need like 2ppg to steal the Calder from Landeskog now I would think.

landeskog has easily been the best and most valuable rookie ithe league this season -- regardless of whether RNH missed games or not. but seeing as the calder tends to be a point driven award, it will be closer that it should be. still landeskog, but close.

Landeskog and it's not even close, unless you're a stat wanker.

    Lol, stat wanker.

Even if you are a stat wanker,

Landeskog is first on his team in goals, +/-, hits, blocks by a forward, tied for first in PPGs, has five game winners, and leads his team in SOG by 77!...77!!!

I'd be willing to bet his ATOI is much higher than all the other rookies as well.

Anyways, none of this is anything new from the other thread. I agree though that it baffles me how some people just focus on points and only points.

Landeskog this year. Just more NHL ready, no knock on RNH. He'll surpass him in the future.

I'm an Edmontonion and huge Oilers fan, but I can't argue with Landeskog. Plays in all situtaitions, unbeleivable +/- along to go with his stats on a so-so Colorado team. Plays with physicality and tough to play against. Nugw will be the bigger offensive fornce in time, but the Calder should go to Landeskog.

i agree. landeskog has been so solid. nugent-hopkins would have had a chance if he hadn't been out but he still had a great rookie season no doubt. landeskog has had more of an impact in my opinion though so i think he should be getting the calder.

We don't pick the Calder winner, the hockey writers do and we all know how bright some of them are. That's why these discussions are interesting, especially now that RNH is back in the lead for pts.
