Default Advice needed: Niemi vs. Ward

In a limited keeper where neither Niemi or Ward would be kept, based on a scoring system of .2 per save, -1 per goal allowed, 3 pts per win, and 4 points for a shutout,

Would you prefer Ward or Niemi for the rest of this season as your second goalie?

Coming into the season, I would have prefered Ward, but based on Carolina's struggles, his numbers have suffered a bit, ...and his save pct. is well below normal, ...Niemi on the other hand seems to be performing at his expected level.

Carolina's coaching change further muddys the water for me...

    I'd appreciate any advice/insight

    Thanks!

Have to favour Niemi at this point. Mid-season coaching changes do not tend to improve overall team defense, even if the new coach is defensive minded. The problem is that defensive systems take too long to implement and it's near impossible to do it on the fly. Only a big influx of improved player personel could revamp the Hurricanes into a defensive squad. Things should improve simply because they should never have gotten that bad in the first place but the 'Canes suck and it's going to be tough times getting wins out of Ward. Give me Niemi, the Sharks are so damn consistent.

Yeah, it's Niemi for me too. He's got a better situation and I'm not totally committed to thinking Ward is even the better goalie.

I agree and if this were a full keeper I would suggest staying put with Ward as he is a top 5 goalie in my eyes, but considering the teams surrounding them Niemi is the clear choice for me this year..

I would take Niemi over Ward any day. Ward may be a better overall goalie but Niemi is in a great situation and plays for a really good team. I would of picked Niemi at the start of the year over Ward and with Carolina's struggles, makes it an easy choice for me.

Wins are a wash; Ward wins in saves; Niemi dominates in goals allowed; Niemi slight edge in SO.

I would go with Niemi... I think Ward's GA will hurt in your format.

Long term id rather have Ward, but for this year yeah Niemi is probably a safer bet. Carolina sucks.
