    Default E.Staal for MPS++

Just curious if this is a deal any of you would do.

I own Staal and have been offered MPS ++ options,
other players the other GM has and I'm interested in are:

    Couture
    Erhoff
    Kulemin
    Schwartz
    Landeskog
    Schneider

I'm pretty strong at C, but lacking a bit on the wings and D. I don't know if I have the depth to compete this year, so I wouldn't mind gearing up for the next season either.
I know Staal is steady and proven already, but with my other Centre's, he's the most disposible with his salary.

What would you want included with MPS? Is this a deal I should even be thinking about?

    Thanks!

Try this. He wants Eric Staal and you could be in a great position to make him overpay. Ask for Schneider, Couture and MPS. If you're strong in net sub Schneider with Landeskog and then add an okay player to Staal in order to get the deal done.

I'd need upwards of to 3 potential elite prospects to trade away Staal.

And that being said, I probably wouldn't trade Staal for MPS++

You need to get some sort of more secure pt production if you are to move Staal. Hes young so even if you aren't competitive this coming season, Staal will help you for a long time.

I would say go after MPS, Landeskog, and Schneider. You are brutal at LW and Couture will be much more expensive than Landeskog. I doubt he would do that deal but if he would i say go for it. Wouldnt hurt to try and get Coture though...

In a 30 team league, goaltending is key so Schnieder has to be included in this deal. I'd be torn between Landeskog or Couture though as the other player.

    thanks for the insights guys!

I was thinking of asking for Couture and Landeskog.

I know that getting a goalie should be a priority but I don't think he's going to give up Schneider as that's his only goalie.

Couture, MPS and Schneider would be a good swap for you.

It helps you in your weakest position, goaltending. Without Schneider coming back, there is no way I trade away Staal.

Also, if you go by average cap hit, see if he would send Ehrhoff instead of Couture as you could use an upgrade on D and Ehrhoff's overall cap hit isn't too pad when averaged out.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

to me these 30 team leagues are very tricky. you have a great core of backstrom, staal, kopitar, stamkos, malkin but after that as you are aware your team is paper thin. alot of young guys and guys who dont contribute much. for me i am thinking you need to trade staal and even kopitar or backstrom and pull in some nice depth. i wouldnt persay be selling these guys for prospects only. if you can use the big names to pull in a goalie and some depth then i would do that. even if you bring in 2 50 point players with a good close prospect then you win on these deals in my mind.

nice big names again but i think you should look at trying to balance the team out so that you have a shot at winning.

edit; just as an example. i would offer up staal to this owner for mps, kulemin, and erhoff with maybe you tossing in a lower prospect. this gets you a potential 60 point guy in kulemin, erhoff should float around 40-50 and then a top end prospect in mps.

Yeah, I was thinking of going for depth also, but the other players he has, I don't know if I'm very interested.
Here are the other players he owns that hold value:

    Franzen,J
    Leddy,N
    Brassard,D
    Bouchard,PM

    Combined with:
    Couture

    totally agree with this assessment.
your C is stacked!. This will give you a balanced approach (does it work for your cap hit).

Yeah, Cap isn't an issue, as I'd be moving Staals contract of 8.3M

honestly, i'd go looking to trade staal rather than "have" to pick from stuff you so-so like.

i think a lot of teams would be interested in staal if you put him on the block.

I am always wary of giving the best player in the deal....
I wouldn't settle for anything less that a top flight winger, if it were me
Never like to take quantity for quality -- and also, what's the keeper situation? Are you going to have to dump someone else to take those lesser players?

No keeper problems as our keepers were already done. I don't have to drop anyone.
The situation is really I have 5 top flight players(Stamkos, malkin, backstrom, kopitar and Staal) I don't have too much depth in other positions and with Staal being at 8.3m, he eats a ton of my cap.

I'm trying turn Staal into 2-3 up and comers. I don't think I have the depth to compete this year and all my other C's are younger than Staal.

Right now I have it at MPS,Couture and a 1st round pick this year(which I could grab a goalie like(Brodeur, theodore, Roloson).

Then that's not bad for you, though I agree with others that you might do better by putting Staal on the block. In such a deep league it's pretty amazing you have all that center depth -- there must be all kinds of teams looking for a top tier center (considering you have most of them)

Ps, if Malkin and Stamkos can count as wingers, you might want to try and upgrade your D, which looks fairly putrid
