Hypothetically, if you could guarantee that no one gets injured, you kind of want to see that game right? The one where they hate each other and revive the rivalry to new heights.

I posted this in one of the other Chara threads too, but its a good speculative read about the injury, the potential seriousness, and what it could ultimately mean.

    http://puckthathurts.wordpress.com/2...a-broken-neck/

    The take-home message:

Concussion: Potentially very long recovery time, increased risk for future injury.

C4 fracture: Hopefully an uncomplicated healing process, but potential need for long-term or invasive therapy.

Potential for return to play: Unknown. Pacioretty could be fine, or this could be a career-ender. And it felt really, really gross to even type that out.

Much respect to the Habs and Bruins medical staff for their handling of Pacioretty’s injury. It’s obvious in the video that they took incredible care with him. Nobody wants to make a broken neck or head injury worse.

Well, it's good to see corporations taking the headshot issue to heart. (credit to Mick for pointing out on the homepage). http://www.citytv.com/toronto/cityne...over-chara-hit

Habs fans are taking it too far though. Flooding police emergency lines with calls crosses the line. Apparently now, only after the outrcy, there will be a criminal investigation. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_yl...oretty-6202221.

There should have been a suspension, but that doesn't mean the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions should take his orders from a mob. He shouldn't be basing his judgments on the NHL's reaction, either. Especially two weeks after a legal work stoppage that (as I understand it) has the criminal dockets backed up already.

It will be interesting to see how this affects Chara going forward. Another big man who put a smaller guy's career in jeopardy. Though of course I don't think he wanted anything like this to happen.

Gary Bettman is Bad A$$. His response to Air Canada's threat: “Air Canada is a great brand as is the National Hockey League and if they decide that they need to do other things with their sponsorship dollars, that’s their prerogative,” AND “It is the prerogative of our clubs that fly on air Canada to make other arrangements if they don’t think Air Canada is giving them the appropriate level of service,”

honestly, it's not Air Canada's place to demand rule changes in the NHL. If they are not comfortable sponsoring the league anymore, then they can take their dollars and leave. It's not their league.

exactly. and if Chara didn't murder Cooke after what happened to Savard, why do people thing that somehow he premeditated "revenge" against Pacioretty after some minor heat of the moment skirmishes?

The difference here is that Pacioretty embarrassed Chara personally.

so you are saying that personal embarrassment is more reason for revenge than an illegal hit which possibly ended the career of the best player on Chara's team?

These guys are professionals, not rec leaguers. If Chara can handle losing his teams best player to a headshot, then he can also handle being "embarrassed" on the ice.

I wouldn't say he's badass, id say he's a petty little man with a massive ego who doesn't like it when he gets a dose of his own medicine. Realistically the teams just want to get to their next game with the least fuss, if that means flying AC that's what they'll do...posturing by both sides

I was only pointing out a difference between the 2, I'm not implying he did it on purpose. Personal embarrassment is worth more than you are crediting, imo.

I think you're taking my joke too seriously, nobody likes Bettman or the way he runs the league, just going for some levity there.

he's a professional paid to play a game at the highest level. I would think that losing to the Flyers last year in the playoffs was far more personally embarrassing than anything Pacioretty could have done to Chara. He's a veteran, not a call-up.
