im in the same boat.when he comes back, will he be on waivers or will he just become a free agent . first come first serve type of thing.
OK. I would like to start a second thread for people in Yahoo Leagues since it's getting jumbled up the original thread.
My question is. I'm the commish in a Yahoo keeper league. The team that had Nabokov last year even said he wanted to keep Nabokov before the draft. My answer was "how can you keep a guy who's not even listed". Now that Nabokov may come back should the original team in a fantasy keeper have first crack at him? Or should he just follow regular Yahoo waiver wire protocol?
P.S when will yahoo add him?

Too bad!
He has to wait like everyone else. Tough Cookies.
When? I can't get an answer either....
I presume he will only get added when he's signed to a team....How long that takes (with the process), I'm stumped on that one.

noone knows when he will be added. From what some people have said in the other thread it looks as though he would have to sign for a team before he would be added in Yahoo. Also from what the others said it will be waiver wire rules not FA in Yahoo.
As for your question relatnig to your league, you really shouldnt have stopped him from keeping Nabokov in the first place if he wanted to (we had a guy in one of my keeper leagues (non-yahoo) do exactly that , and someone else did it with Jagr and Hudler as well. But once you said no to hiskeeping Nabby then I assume he picked up someone else and therefore is reaping the benefits of that pickup (to whatever degree) so he shouldnt also get first dibs at Nabby.
He will get added when he signs.
He will be on waivers when he is added.

I think if a team wanted to hold on to him but couldn't because he was no longer in the database, that team should have first go at him this time around.
As long as that GM made it clear he wanted to keep him, AND didn't benefit from not keeping him (for example, in my league I received a chunk of valuable cap space back when he went to Russia) then he should have first dibs.

i kept radulov for two years after he left for the khl - despite him not being on yahoo as an active player. if he wanted to keep nabokov, he should have bitten the bullet and done it and lost the roster spot, like i did with rads. otherwise, tough.
you would have to have some sort of supplemental tracking outside of Yahoo, but that actually answers your own question. If there was no way in place for the GM in question to be able to keep him on his squad (due to Yahoo removing) then you could not let him hang onto Nabby and therefore you did what you had to do and he should not get first dibs
I have to disagree with this, particularly the "you did what you had to do" part. It's not that hard to keep track of a player outside of the Yahoo! software. Especially in a keeper, I would expect a commissioner to at least make some minimal effort to allow poolies to keep players removed from the database so hastily. I certainly do this for the pools where I'm commish.
I was just basically saying that if there were no rules or system in place to keep players that are not listed in Yahoo then you cant just start doing that out of nowhere all of a sudden. There has to be a rule or understanding among the GMs as to what "player pool" is available. Its no different than keeper leagues that allow GMs to draft players that are not yet drafted by NHL teams, you have to have a framework.
I agree it takes minimal effort hence my earlier post saying I think he should have been allowed to keep him, but it is not fair to other GMs for him to have first choice on Nabby after (I assume) he replaced him due to the league setup.
If your league had a farm system where you own a player but it's not actualy on your roster, than I think he could have kept him. Because this is basicaly what yo do with AHL or OHL players....if that was the case than its' his own fault for not keeping him.
If you don't have that set up, then I don't think he has any right to him. He has to wait like everybody else.

I think if you are in a league with no farm system and no rule that applies to keeping guys who go to another league for a while unless they are loaned and hence still under contract with an NHL team, then there is no way the guy can hang onto him and I think you made that ruling last season.
In your league it sounds like the guy who owned him has not entitlement to him and that's just the way it goes.
All I can say is don't make this ruling based on your own preference.
Add some wisdom from here, add some suggestions, add some background.....
But once everyone is provided with that........Let your league vote on it and majority is the decision. Making these decisions yourself is commish suicide in my opinion.
