I cannot for the life of me locate it, but there was a tweet by a Coyotes blogger post-game that indicated that OEL played a great defensive game, more than holding his own against those skilled Wings forwards. If I find it i'll post it. I know it doesn't translate to fantasy worth but it's always good to read that he's playing well because that is likely to result in his ice time is maintained or increased.

One thing that may help OEL sooner than later is the Yandle rumours. He is in the last yr of his current contract and given the Phoenix financial situation, perhaps the team is looking to deal him to save money. With OEL, Gormley & Goncharov, it could be argued that it is a depth position for the team. Their lack of quality centres may spur this move more than anything.
I never considered this. Yandle is their best player, imo, but it does make some sense that they'd try to move him to save some money. It would be sad, but possible. At the same time, though, once Jovo, Aucoin, and Morris' salaries are gone, they should be able to easily afford Yandle.
But, he would likely fetch them a decent return and help solidify their Centre position, as you suggest.
I personally don't see them trading Yandle, but before you brought up this possibility, I honestly hadn't even thought about it.

slightly off topic but considering the Yotes deal Yandle, would this not translate to more fantasy value for Yandle and possibly more fantasy value for OEL?
if traded to the right team, and one more offensively loaded than PHO, couldn't Yandle become even more valuable fantasy wise?
on that same note, couldn't this also translate to OEL moving into Yandles top spot and thus improving his fantasy value?
looking waay to far into the future, just thought I would ask...there are arguments on both sides of the "playing with other offensive talent" discussion (i.e. - the Carlson and Green comparison), so I would assume a move of this nature would likely benefit Yandle more...
make sense? i ramble sometimes and lose focus of my initial questions! sorry...

Seriously though, I agree with your thoughts about increased value for both but am in the camp that doesn't see Yandle going anywhere unless he & his agent price themselves out of Phoenix when it come to preliminary contract talks.

A few weeks ago in this thread some of you ok'd using my #2 waiver on OEL, now he's been sent back down to the minors.
In a November 9th article, "Fantasy Indicators of Success (2010): Defensemen", Ryan Ma states that OEL isn't even "fantasy worthy" in a one year league.
Are most of you still behind him, long term?
Appreciate your insights, thanks.

100% absolutely behind him long term. Maloney said the main reason he sent him down was to regain a little confidence with more playing time, in the last couple of games his playing time had decreased significantly from the 20 minute highs earlier in the season. My take is that even this year he's not done, by virtue of injury (Jovo, Aucoin) or just readiness, he'll be back up and it'll be like a Karlsson situation last year when he came back up and ended up playing 60+ games total. As for next year, when Jovo is gone and Aucoin is on the way out, it'll be OEL's time to start getting big minutes and it'll be the beginnings of the OEL/Yandle show on the Coyotes PP.
I traded him just this week, could afford to given the depth I had at D and managed to snag Backes by trading him, but I strongly recommend him as a keeper option and feel he will be "fantasy worthy" in deeper leagues latest next year and possibly by the middle to end of this year.
For this year, I think he ends up with 55GP and 15-20 points. For next year, 30-35 points and starting to see bigger minutes in all situations, including PP. I would see him making Yandle or Letang-like progress, you might have to put up with a couple of 30-point seasons but then BOOM he'll start giving you 45+ with regularity. I think he is good enough (and mature enough despite his young age) to even have a shot at 35-40 next year, which is more than fantasy worthy in most deeper leagues.
In your case, looks like he's on your farm team. It depends on lots of other factors, and I've never participated in a league with farm teams and so don't know the ins and outs, but it seems to me that OEL would be exactly the type of player you want to stash on a farm team.

any word on him lately? do you think he'll be coming back up to the nhl soon?
Not THAT hairy, honest!
Played again yesterday in the AHL and got another assist. He is logging a ton of ice time beside Maxim Goncharov and he seems to be shooting a bit more.
One game he had three assists. However it hasn't all been roses. His +/- has been sporadic.
I don't see him being called up in the immediate future unless there is another injury.
I do see him back up with the big squad after the new year like Karlsson last year.
