I have to go with Samuelsson. He's starting the season with the Twins and his plus minus will be very good. He'll see PP time, although it may be on the 2nd unit.

Zherdev has looked great in the preseason, but there's SO much depth up front in Philly - more than in Van - that I'm not sure if he'll get enough quality time (PP, TOI) to beat out Samuelsson.

I agree with this for sure. I'll also add that Zherdev is a p#sy.

Sammy is the safer pick; plus depending on how he performs in the Sedin sandwich, he could stay with them even when Burrows comes back.

I don't think that Zherdev's upside is any higher than Samuelsson's? I would take the guy who is going to be riding shotgun with the twins for a while.

You're question here is about upside, and not who is more likely to score a higher point total this year. Sammy may be the safer bet hit the 55 point mark this year. Zherdev may be less likely to get there. But....if everything goes well for Zherdev and he doesn't get injured, he is more capable at this stage in his career of topping 65+.

Safer bet = Sammy.

Better upside = Zherdev.

Also, Zherdev's downside won't be much lower than 50 points this year.

Also, I think Burrows gets back on the top line when he comes back from injury. I live in Vancouver and this has been talked about a fair bit on the radio shows. Hard to tell what actually happens, but you can't discount the success he's had with the twins in the past, and the organization likes his toughness on that line.

the thread is in a one year league so I assume that the OP needs the guy with the most points THIS Season and upside shouldn't matter if it is a one year.

Samuelsson is the man to take here.
Zherdev is on a team loaded with offensive depth. He is by no means gauranteed minutes and from past experience I know he ends up in the coaches doghouse quite often.

On a side note: I wouldn't be surprised if the Flyers package a guy like Zherdev later in the season for a top notch goaltender - ah hum Tomas Vokoun maybe?
