    Default Team Canada Implosion

I've seen a few Team Canada melt downs over the years, particularly with the Juniors, but not so much with World and Olympic championship mens teams who should not be subject to a full period of catastrophic breakdowns ... until yesterday. An Austrian team with only 1 NHL player(rossi) on the roster, thoroughly pummels Team Canada for 5 unanswered goals in the 3rd period. Had the Austrians scored in overtime, it would have been the biggest comeback in world championship history. It also would have been Austria's first win over Canada at the world championship. A complete disaster for Team Canada was avoided when JT scored in overtime. Wow! This team struggled to beat England and then Denmark and now this. I guess the good news is that so far the American's are shitting the bed even worse than Canada (:

It's common in these tournaments that players use it as a way to party away from their families so I don't take too much weight into any of the games in all honesty.

Well there must have been one hell of a party in the Team Canada dressing room between the 2nd and 3rd periods!

I haven't watched highlights - but it looks like Canada's Binnington gave up 5 goals on 6 shots inside 30' in the 3rd.
That's either on Binnington - or the D-matching (as four of the goals look like they were in from VERY close.

Austria Goal #2 (1/5 of 3rd) is giveaway by 55-Parayko
    Austria Goal #3 (2/5 of 3rd) is mostly no-mark by 78-Sanderson
Austria Goal #4 (3/5 of 3rd) is long-bomb that Binnington should've had (Binnington - we know him - was probably already rattled after previous two).
Austria Goal #5 (4/5 of 3rd) is lazy feet by 55-Parayko
    Austria Goal #6 (5/5 of 3rd) is poor-handle by 21-Guhle

So... overall - just shitty focus/play by the D... and a LOT of goalies (Binnington IS one) just sort of have "give up" periods when they don't feel supported.
    Meh - Canada outshot them.

If anything - it may serve as a wake-up call to buckle down.

Hockey is a weird game - sometimes you can flip heads 5 times in a row.

Maybe it's too many winners in one team. No motivation to prove anything.

To be fair, Canada, and the US, usually improves during the tournament.

I would take a guess the Canadian team (USA too) doesn’t have near the practice hours together that some of these other teams do. That can go a long ways

This applies to many sports and many countries and not just Canada and hockey.....

Before professional teams were what they are now, playing for your country was the most important part of sports. There was money involved but mostly there was lost and lots of pride and patriotism.

Now its all about money, its all about their club teams. They go to these events just so nobody thinks less of them and in a away it probably makes them more money in the long term due to popularity but once they get there there is no pride, they don't try as hard as they would otherwise...they are also always aware of risk of injury so 110% ain't a thing anymore....

Also this particular tournament is not best on best so maybe motivation is even less than something like Olympics etc.
